Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and interactions between the childminder and the children. The inspector looked at information about children's attendance and development. The inspector had ongoing discussions with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector discussed the childminder's evaluation, assessment and planning methods, and her range of policies and procedures. The inspector invited the childminder to carry out a joint observation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a very good understanding of the legal requirements. Safeguarding is effective. She knows what she should do if she has any concerns about a child. She reduces risks by carrying out regular safety checks. The childminder demonstrates a good commitment to continuous improvement. She monitors and evaluates the success of all aspects of the childcare service she provides and values the views of parents, children and her local authority advisor. The childminder shares her experiences with parents so they can support children at home, which helps promote continuity of children's care and learning. Parents speak highly of the quality of care, education and attention their children receive.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder's effective teaching supports children's good progress. She successfully identifies children's next steps in learning and meets their individual needs well. Children are supported well to make good progress in their communication and language. The childminder constantly talks with the children about what they are doing and how they are playing. Children enjoy a wide range of activities to extend their learning. She uses questions to make children think as they look at books, explore simple technology toys and bake cookies. Children enjoy regular outings to local parks where they develop their physical skills, and discover more about their community and the natural world.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The kind and caring childminder provides a welcoming home and is very sensitive to children's needs. She supports them well and children demonstrate they feel settled and secure. For example, children instinctively go to her for cuddles when they are unsure about visitors in the home, or feeling tired. Children respond well to the childminder's gentle behaviour reminders, such as to use 'kind hands' and to share. This helps children to respect others. Children learn to keep safe and healthy, and to follow effective hygiene procedures. For example, children know to drink water when their bodies are feeling hot and to wash their hands before they eat or after using the toilet.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children demonstrate that they are developing the skills and attributes they need to be ready for school. For example, they can identify different sizes and shapes, and can count when using different items to make prints in dough. Children know how to look after their own care needs as they try to put on their own clothes and can manage their own personal needs with growing independence. All children make good progress relative to their starting points.
