Inspection activities
The inspector looked at the areas of the premises that are used for childminding, including the outdoor area. The inspector jointly observed and discussed the teaching and learning activities provided with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises. She also checked the childminder's and assistant's qualifications, children's development records and a selection of policies and procedures. The inspector talked to the childminder about her self-evaluation and plans for improvement. The inspector took account of the views of parents and children detailed in questionnaires, and references provided by parents on the day of inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is very vigilant and knows what to do should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. She ensures her assistant fully understands the procedures to keep children safe. The childminder is well qualified and very experienced. She undertakes regular training and shares her learning with her assistant to maintain the outstanding quality of teaching. The childminder tracks the individual progress of all children and has started to monitor differences in some groups of children who attend. She uses this information to provide specific programmes of support based on identified needs. She is now looking to extend this to look at other groups and ensure that gaps in learning continue to narrow. The childminder has excellent partnerships with other early years providers. She works diligently to ensure a coordinated response, so all children make the best possible progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder uses an array of methods to inspire young children to learn. Excellent interactions and very skilful questioning encourage children to fully explore their own ideas and make links in their learning. Children particularly enjoy time spent in the garden, where they use their imagination pretending to be pirates, enthusiastically searching for treasure in the sand. Planned activities are superb. The childminder helps children learn how to take turns, use their senses and develop their language and mathematical skills. For example, they count and measure how many scoops of oats they need to fill their containers and trucks. Simple calculation is introduced for older children by talking about more and less, and adding and taking away. Younger children are encouraged to explore by mixing water into the oats. The childminder effectively helps children build early literacy skills. Children listen attentively to stories and proudly write their names.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Children flourish in the childminder's care. The childminder makes very good use of local amenities, regularly taking children on walks through the forest and local fields to observe wildlife. She provides all-weather suits and wellingtons for outdoor play, so children benefit from fresh air and exercise all year round. Children constantly chat as they play, confidently asking questions and talking about what they would like to do. They have a strong sense of belonging. They are keen to show visitors their photographs displayed in the playroom. The childminder is an excellent role model and sets high standards for children's behaviour. Children use very good manners and develop strong friendships, asking each other for help. They show a mature consideration for the feelings of others, making Christmas cards for the residents of a local care home. The childminder talks to children about keeping safe. They demonstrate excellent understanding for their age,
