This provision is good
Children share a close relationship with the childminder; they are happy and settled, and thrive in her care. The childminder works in close partnership with staff at other settings the children attend. She shares relevant information with them about the children's development. She also provides activities that are linked to their learning experiences at other early years settings, to ensure continuity of learning and care. The childminder is highly vigilant and constantly ensures that all environments are safe and secure for the children. She does this by regularly assessing the environment for any hazards and she gives children clear explanations to help them learn how to keep themselves safe. The childminder provides very good support for children who are learning English as an additional language. Together with the other children, they make good progress and communicate exceptionally well in English.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder is very caring and protective of children, but does not always allow them to explore and take risks, according to their age and ability, to extend their learning further. The childminder does not consistently use opportunities to encourage children to count and recognise numbers.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

The inspector and the childminder evaluated the effectiveness of an activity together. The inspector observed the children during their play activities, as well as during meals. The inspector examined various documents, including risk assessments, relevant certificates, and a range of policies and procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder uses effective strategies to accurately monitor children's learning. She regularly shares this information with parents and actively encourages them to contribute to this so that she has an all-round view of children's progress at home and at her setting. The childminder evaluates accurately what children have gained from an activity, and uses this information to plan for the next stages in their learning. She actively keeps her knowledge up to date to ensure that she continues to provide positive learning experiences for children. The childminder regularly reflects on the service she provides and makes positive improvements for the benefit of the children. For example, she maintains children's interest and curiosity by constantly providing new resources and adapting activities to make them more interesting and challenging. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands the importance of keeping children safe and knows

the procedures to follow should she be concerned about a child's welfare.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children choose from an extensive variety of activities and resources that are used to promote their learning and development indoors and outside. They thoroughly enjoy listening to stories, playing imaginative games and engaging in creative painting and drawing activities. The childminder knows the children well and plans effectively for their needs according to their likes and interests. The childminder provides a wide range of fun learning experiences for children, such as taking them on outings, and links these to activities in which children participate at the setting. The childminder uses effective strategies to prepare children for their move to school or other early years settings.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is a positive role model for children. She consistently encourages children to be kind and to use good manners; they are well behaved. Children learn the importance of healthy lifestyles; they follow good hygiene routines, drink water regularly and enjoy eating healthy and nutritious meals. Children like to spend time participating in fun activities outdoors, and gain lots of fresh air and exercise. The childminder helps to manage young children's personal hygiene needs and supports them in learning to do this for themselves.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident and friendly. They enjoy celebrating different festivals and learning about people and communities who are different to them. For example, children have fun exploring with noodles for Chinese New Year and they make pancakes for Pancake Day. Children learn a good variety of skills that prepare them well for their move to school or other early years settings. They make good progress from their starting points.
