This provision is good

 The childminder provides a warm and family-orientated environment. She has strong relationships with children, which helps them develop a good sense of belonging and trust.  Children enjoy the good and varied range of activities and experiences that the childminder plans and provides. This supports children's interests, learning and development well, helping children make good progress from their starting points.  The childminder has good links with other early years providers to help her provide continuity in children's play and progress.  There are strong partnerships with parents. The childminder has a good flow of two- way communication that encourages parents to contribute to children's learning and share experiences from home.  Effective self-evaluation enables the childminder to develop her practice and skills, and identify areas to develop, for example, to extend learning opportunities outdoors.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not extend opportunities for children to learn more about similarities and differences, and other cultures and beliefs.  The childminder supports children well to wash their hands, but she does extend this so that they learn why they should follow good personal hygiene and its benefits to their health.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide more opportunities to help children learn about similarities and differences, and other cultures and beliefs  help children further to learn about the benefits of good personal-hygiene routines.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder and children during play activities.  The inspector spoke to the childminder at different intervals during the inspection.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder to establish how she keeps her knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage up to date.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder about how she develops her partnerships with parents and with other early years providers.  The inspector sampled a range of documentation that the childminder uses to support her practices.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a strong understanding of child protection procedures and knows what to do should she have a concern. She has robust risk assessments to help her promote children's safety and welfare in her home and on outings. The childminder works with other professionals to help her improve her teaching skills and children's learning and development, especially outdoors, to provide children with more experiences to explore and investigate. The childminder uses self-evaluation well to promote good outcomes for children. She has addressed the recommendations from her last inspection well to provide a more interesting learning environment and she works closely with parents to share relevant documentation to meet children's care, learning and development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder uses information from parents about children's starting points well to plan activities effectively that build on what children already know and can do. She undertakes detailed observation and assessments to monitor children's progress and close any gaps through targeted support and challenging learning experiences. The childminder effectively extends children's interests and learning. For example, following on from children playing with toy trains, she plans activities for them to look at train maps, use books about trains and go on the tube. The childminder supports young children's imagination well. They role play using dolls to act out real-life scenarios by imitating putting their doll to bed and feeding them with toy bottles.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children feel confident to explore and play in the childminder's comfortable environment. They independently access the varied range of toys and equipment in the dedicated playroom to pursue their learning and interests. The childminder plans daily outdoor experiences that promote children's good health and physical skills and provides healthy home-cooked meals in line with children's dietary needs. The childminder supports children's personal and emotional development well, and children benefit from consistent praise and encouragement. The childminder plans experiences at local community groups and soft play areas for children to socialise with others and be physically active.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop good skills in preparation for future learning and moving on to school. They communicate their needs and ideas confidently and gain good literacy and mathematical skills. Children enjoy books, practising their early writing skills, and counting and learning about size, shape and quantity.
