Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of how to identify and report any concerns regarding the welfare of a child. She implements a range of policies and procedures which ensures a safe and secure environment for the children. The childminder is well qualified for her role and uses the knowledge gained from training to enhance her practice and teaching. She regularly meets up with other local childminders to discuss good practice ideas and offer support. She works effectively in partnership with parents, who provide positive feedback and comments regarding the quality of care and support their children receive. The childminder understands the importance of working in partnership with other settings and regularly shares information to support children's continued progress.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children are motivated by the experiences the childminder creates. She effectively monitors children's progress using accurate observations, assessments and evaluations. These systems help the childminder to identify next steps in children's learning and enable the swift identification of any further support required. The childminder supports children's mathematical development extremely well during daily activities. One example of this is when children cut fruit into halves and quarters, counting how many pieces they have. The childminder effectively helps to support young children's developing language skills. She introduces new words and provides lots of opportunities for the children to talk about things that interest them. The childminder carefully listens to what children have to say and allows them time to process their thoughts and ideas. Children are learning about the world around them. They visit places of interest and attend different groups and activities,

developing their social skills and confidence as they mix with other children and make friends.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder has a warm and friendly manner. Children's emotional well-being is exceptionally well supported. The childminder develops caring relationships with the children and is calm, kind and sensitive. Children's behaviour is good. The childminder supports children's understanding of the importance of sharing, taking turns and listening to others. Children are encouraged to be independent. They pour their own drinks at snack times, put on their own coats and help each other to tidy away toys. The childminder talks to the children about healthy eating and they frequently participate in physical play in the garden. Children learn how to keep themselves safe, for example, as they master using scissors, remembering how to hold and use them safely.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder effectively supports children to acquire the key skills required for the next stage in their learning.
