This provision is good
The childminder has developed effective systems to enable her to reflect on the quality of her provision. She frequently seeks the views of parents and children to help her to identify and target areas for improvement. The childminder and her assistant meet regularly with other childminders to share professional knowledge and skills. The childminder accesses regular training, which she uses well to promote children's learning. For example, she has utilised knowledge from training to help structure her day to make the most of children's learning opportunities. The childminder and her assistant know the children well and involve themselves fully in children's play to promote their learning. For example, they talk about what children are doing, questioning their understanding and introducing new words into their vocabulary to ensure children make good progress. Children have good opportunities to develop essential social skills to help them move on

to pre-school and school. For example, they visit local groups where they learn to mix with and make friendships with other children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always take full advantage of all daily routines to challenge children and extend their independence skills. The childminder does not gain information from parents on their children's changing interests and learning from home to support her in planning for their future learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children engaged in activities and the interactions of the childminder and her assistant with them. The inspector spoke with the children, childminder and assistant at convenient times during the inspection. The inspector sampled various documents, including children's learning records, the childminder's self-evaluation, risk assessments and relevant policies and procedures. The inspector took into account the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant have completed recent child protection training to ensure they are confident in following procedures to protect children from harm. The childminder fully understands the requirements and works successfully with her assistant to meet these. She ensures her assistant has a secure understanding of her responsibilities and together they promote children's learning and welfare effectively. The childminder shares her procedures with parents to help them understand her working practices. She monitors children's learning effectively; this means she can easily identify any weaknesses in learning and development. The childminder knows how to access advice from other professionals if children need additional support.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a good range of stimulating activities to meet individual children's interests and support their play. She helps children to develop a good understanding of mathematical concepts. For example, during the inspection children explored spooning flour onto balance scales; they discussed ideas such as 'heaviest' and 'lightest' as they observed that the scales moved up and down. Younger children are supported well to learn through their sensory explorations. The childminder helps children to enjoy practising their early writing skills. For example, children explored making marks using chalk and pens and then used wet cotton buds to make the marks disappear.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children have a good relationship with the childminder and her assistant. They enjoy cuddles and reassurance from them when they feel unsettled. Children behave well; they are supported to learn about sharing and taking turns with toys. The childminder helps children to develop good independence and self-help skills. For example, children use a mirror to check for themselves if they need to wipe their noses. Children have a good understanding of how germs spread; they confidently discuss what happens when they cough and sneeze. Children learn about keeping healthy. For example, they regularly visit local parks to play in the fresh air and they talk about food and drink making them big and strong.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress from their starting points. They explore activities thoroughly and concentrate for good lengths of time. Children develop good self-esteem and confidence with the childminder. They are confident communicators and ask questions to support their growing understanding. Children develop key skills to prepare them well for future learning and school.
