This provision is good
The childminder monitors children's progress carefully, checking on their development to identify any areas where children may need extra help. This helps her adapt her practices in line with their needs. Children develop the key skills for when they go to school and make good progress from their starting points. The childminder works closely and effectively with parents so that children benefit from consistency of care. Children settle quickly, enjoy taking part in activities and are happy and relaxed. The attentive and patient childminder forms caring relationships with children, supporting their emotional security well. Children are confident and develop good social skills. Children make consistent progress in their communication and language skills. The childminder listens carefully to children and encourages them to learn new words during play.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
There are fewer opportunities for children to develop their early writing skills. Overall, the childminder develops good relationships with staff in other early years settings children attend. However, she has not developed these to share information about children's learning and development consistently with all providers.

Inspection activities
The inspector observer the childminder engaged in activities with the children. The inspector looked at a range of documents, including policies and records relating to children's progress. The inspector took account of the views of parents in written comments. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder uses her skills and knowledge of the requirements effectively to promote children's welfare and learning. She has an up-to-date understanding of child protection matters to help her keep children safe. The childminder uses risk assessments effectively to maintain good standards of health and safety in all areas of her home and on outings. The childminder uses self-evaluation effectively to consistently improve her provision. She regularly updates her knowledge and skills, for example, by attending training. This has led her to review the support she gives children to help them manage their behaviour and extend their social skills.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder assesses children's levels of development well when they first start to attend and keeps parents informed about their children's achievements. She uses her insightful observations effectively to plan activities which motivate children to learn and help them to make good progress. The childminder has a strong understanding of how children learn and supports them to develop their skills well during play. For example, as children enjoy playing with toy cars, the childminder thoughtfully encourages them to count, compare sizes and notice shapes. This helps children to improve their mathematical knowledge and vocabulary substantially. The childminder interacts positively with children, such as during role play, to develop their imaginations. She makes suggestions, gives encouragement and skilfully extends their learning experiences further.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is a good role model. She sensitively encourages children to be kind to each other, use good manners and behave well. During activities, the childminder praises children's efforts, promoting enjoyment of learning and developing their good self-esteem. Children enjoy healthy snacks and follow good hygiene routines, supporting their understanding of healthy lifestyles. The childminder helps children to become aware of playing safely and supports their growing independence, for example, by encouraging them to tidy away when they have finished playing with an activity. Plenty of outdoor play and a wide variety of physical activities help children to improve their balance and coordination.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy regular outings and socialise well with others, developing their good social and emotional skills. They benefit from the nurturing, homely environment that the childminder provides, where they can explore and enjoy the activities on offer with confidence.
