This provision is good

 The staff provide children with a good range of learning opportunities. All children are fully engaged in their play and make good progress in their learning and development as a result.  The children build strong bonds with all staff because of the secure settling-in procedures which support children's emotional well-being.  Staff implement good safeguarding procedures that keep children safe and meet their care and well-being needs effectively.  The staff work closely with parents, promoting good quality continuous care and learning opportunities for each child.  The owners demonstrate a strong commitment to developing the nursery. They value the views and opinions of everyone connected to the nursery and have targeted plans for the future.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Staff do not always provide children with sufficient resources and equipment to encourage them to explore mark making and practise their early writing skills while engaged in play activities.  Staff do not always fully extend younger children's learning. This means that they sometimes miss opportunities to build on children's good knowledge and thinking skills.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide more opportunities for children to explore their early writing skills in all areas of the environment to develop further their interest in literacy  continue to support staff to improve their skills and knowledge to ensure they fully extend children's learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector sampled recruitment documentation and talked to the owners and staff about the induction and supervision process.  The inspector observed children's play and staff interactions, indoors and outdoors.  The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's assessment folders, planning documentation and safeguarding procedures.  The inspector took into account the views of those parents spoken to on the day.  The inspector carried out a joint observation with one of the owners.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. Managers are clear about the action to take and who to contact should they have any concerns regarding children's welfare. Strong recruitment procedures ensure staff are checked thoroughly before they work with children. Managers have in place concise induction procedures to support new staff and those taking on new roles, to ensure they are fully supported in their role. There is a new manager in post who is making positive changes to the practice, such as the implementation of a strong training programme. Managers have forged good links with other professionals and respond to findings from quality assurance checks, to help them constantly reflect on their practice. For instance, they are working with the local authority to update their monitoring systems to further improve outcomes for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff complete good assessments on children and have a clear picture of the progress of individual children. Parents are fully involved in their children's learning. Staff share information regarding children's progress and next steps in learning, offering suggestions for parents to support learning at home. Babies and children are eager to play and explore. For example, they investigate the natural resources, as staff chatter to them about the texture. Staff promote children's communication and language very well because their interactions with children are strong and positive. They talk to children and make good use of repetition to reinforce the correct pronunciation. Children learn new words, share their ideas and communicate confidently.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff are good role models; they help children to share resources and to take turns during activities, which promotes positive social skills. Staff help children's understanding of the importance of keeping safe. For example, they teach them how to use scissors safely. Children grow in confidence as staff help them to develop their independence and self- care skills, for instance, as they change their footwear to go outside. The children benefit from daily opportunities to exercise in the fresh air in the garden. They enjoy trips to local parks and shops to gain a good awareness of their local community and the diverse world in which they live. Mealtimes are a social occasion where the staff sit with children to enjoy a freshly prepared nutritious meal. Staff are aware of how to support any special dietary requirements and teach children about healthy lifestyles.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning and development. They develop strong emotional well-being and are confident active learners, who are well prepared for their future learning and move to school.
