p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. A broad range of policies and procedures is implemented effectively. She knows what actions to take should she have any concerns about children in her care. Daily checks of the childminder's home are carried out to help identify and minimise any risks. The childminder completes mandatory training, such as paediatric first aid and safeguarding. This supports her to keep children safe and healthy. The childminder supervises children closely at all times to contribute to their safety. There is a regular and meaningful exchange of information between the childminder and parents which helps to ensure that children's needs and interests are met.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides children with plentiful opportunities to rest and relax after school and to follow their own interests. Children's creative ideas are promoted. They have free access to various art and craft materials and resources. The childminder is playful and attentive with children. She is keen to provide meaningful and stimulating play experiences. As a result, children are fully absorbed in the activities provided for them. One example of this is the development of a post-office play area where children practise a range of early mathematical and literacy skills. This opportunity was developed in response to the younger children's interest in creating cards to mark celebrations and in spontaneously writing number lines. Children have fun during their play and reinforce the learning they have started at school. They are eager to share their daily experiences and any concerns they may have with the childminder. This helps to support the development

of their communication and language skills and the strength of their emotional security and self-esteem.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder successfully creates a caring and secure environment in her home. She encourages good manners and praises children's efforts. Children are reminded about appropriate behavioural boundaries and expectations and respond positively. Older children are helpful and supportive towards those younger than themselves. One example of this is playing board games together which helps children to learn to share and take turns with their friends. There are clear routines in place for children to follow. This encourages children to learn how to keep themselves safe, for example, on the walk to and from school. Children are encouraged to be independent in their self-care. They wash their hands before snacks and meals and put on their own coats and shoes. Children engage in discussions with the childminder that support their understanding of the similarities and differences between themselves and others.
