This provision is good

 The childminder has made very good progress since her last inspection. She has reflected purposefully on her practice, and has sought support, guidance and training to enhance her knowledge, skills and outcomes for children.  Children are happy and confident in the childminder's care. They enjoy the toys and activities available to them and make independent choices with confidence.  The childminder monitors and assesses children's development well and plans for the next steps in learning effectivity. She helps children make good progress from their starting points.  The childminder maintains a good two-way flow of communication with all professionals involved in children's care to effectively promote continuity of care. They regularly exchange information verbally and through daily diaries.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not consistently encourage children to follow good hygiene practices to prevent the spread of infection. For example, on occasion, she forgets to check they wash their hands before eating.  Parents are not actively encouraged to share their views of the provision, to help shape and guide future practice.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 enhance children's understanding of how they can protect themselves from cross- infection to promote their good health more effectively  strengthen parents' involvement in the evaluation of the provision to help shape further improvements.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children in all areas of the home used for minding, including in the garden.  The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector sampled children's development files, planning, policies and procedures, and the childminder's self-evaluation form.  The inspector took account of written feedback from parents.  The inspector spoke to children and interacted in their play.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has improved her knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage significantly since her last inspection. She has greatly improved her documentation to meet all mandatory requirements and is consistently reflecting on her ongoing role. The childminder has booked onto training courses, such as one about observation and assessment, to advance her understanding and skills further. She wants to improve the content of children's learning journals to give parents a clearer picture of their children's learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has attended safeguarding training since the last inspection. She is now confident about the signs and symptoms that may indicate that a child is at risk and the routes of referral.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder uses her good teaching skills well. She plans a good range of activities that build on children's interests and enjoyment. The childminder plays and interacts well with the children, making the most of opportunities to extend children's learning. For example, when they play and explore with pasta, the childminder asks and encourages mathematical questions, to extend children's counting skills and awareness of size. The childminder talks well with the children, and promotes their early communication skills while they engage in conversations.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children demonstrate that they feel safe. They explore the childminder's home with confidence. They have clearly formed and trusting relationships with the childminder and enjoy her company. For example, they like to snuggle into her at story time and listen intently to the stories she reads. The childminder uses a good amount of praise, which helps to foster children's self-esteem. The childminder provides children with a range of healthy snacks and frequent drinks. Children have plenty of fresh air and exercise which contributes to a healthy lifestyle.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning and development, which helps them to be well prepared for their next stage in education. They are well occupied and clearly at ease within the childminder's care. They enjoy her company and readily invite her into their play. For example, as they play doctors, the children encourage her to be the nurse to help keep the dolls warm, as they are unwell. Children are confident, behave well and learn to be considerate of others and polite.
