This provision is good

 The manager and staff have a very good understanding of the relevant statutory requirements. They identify clearly how these are met. For example, staff plan and provide safe and secure play environments, both inside and outside.  Children learn to keep themselves healthy. They learn about differences between foods, such as how vegetables and fruits help to keep them healthy, while other foods are better as occasional treats. The children also learn about where food comes from, as they take part in first-hand experiences, planting and growing produce in their pre- school garden.  Purposeful interaction between staff and parents helps to support each child's overall learning and development. Parents engage with their child's key person, sharing information about their ongoing learning and achievements at home. Information provided to parents helps them to understand how their children are doing in relation

to their age and how they can help them to progress further.  The manager and staff undertake robust self-evaluation which takes into account the views of parents and children. This enables them to continuously develop and improve their service.  The manager monitors staff practice to provide support and guidance for their continuing professional development. This helps to ensure that they continue to work effectively with the children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Staff do not always make the most of their tracking systems to ensure they accurately identify any areas where a child may benefit from further support.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 refine the ways in which children's progress is monitored and tracked to aid sharper identification of any emerging gaps or acceleration in their learning and development.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's development and progress. She spoke to staff and children at appropriate times.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the manager and discussed the findings.  The inspector reviewed relevant documentation including evidence of the suitability of committee members and staff, relevant training certificates and a selection of policies and procedures.  The inspector obtained the views of parents and members of the committee during the inspection.  The inspector held a meeting with the manager and reviewed the setting's self- evaluation documents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The manager and staff have all attended relevant training and have a shared understanding about their responsibility to protect children from harm. In addition to ensuring that mandatory training remains up to date, the manager and staff access further training across a wide section of early years subjects. This attention to their ongoing professional development helps them to update their teaching practice by building on their existing knowledge and skills. Relevant policies and procedures are maintained along with all required records. The manager carefully monitors particular records in order to promote the positive welfare of the children and support the smooth daily management of the setting. Confidentiality is respected and all personal records relating to children and their families are kept secure. Parents and children are encouraged to share their ideas and views. These are taken into careful

consideration as the manager and staff reflect on and develop practice. For example, daily sessions have been extended to provide an early bird club, to support parents getting to work on time.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children are interested and motivated as they explore a wide range of activities. Staff observe and assess learning to identify their developing interests and plan activities to help them build on their existing understanding and ability. The children enjoy singing songs and matching actions to rhymes during group time. While sharing books and reading stories the children begin exploring letters and sounds. This helps to support them to extend their growing vocabulary even further. Children make their own selections and examine toys. For example, by pressing buttons on a torch, they begin to develop their understanding about simple technology and how this can be used for a purpose. Overall, the children make very good progress towards the early learning goals and develop the positive characteristics of effective learners. Staff provide excellent role models for children to copy. Older children show care and kindness to each other and to the younger

children. They help to find lost belongings and encourage others to join in their games.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The children enjoy moving between the indoor and outdoor areas. As the children engage in more strenuous activity, they notice this affects their bodies. Staff help them to learn that exercising is beneficial in staying fit and healthy. Children's behaviour is very good. They learn to respect each other's space and share resources. For example, without prompting they cut play dough into equal pieces and share these out. Children's self- confidence and self-awareness are clearly promoted by the manager and her staff. They use plenty of positive praise and gentle encouragement which prompt the children to try things for themselves.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make very good progress in their learning and development relative to their starting points. This in turn, means that they acquire the skills they need in readiness for the next stage in their learning and the eventual move on to school.
