This provision is good

 The childminder is warm and caring. She has created very strong relationships with children and parents. Children have high levels of confidence and are keen to involve her in their play and learning.  The childminder is a good teacher. She continually reflects on her practice and sources training courses, helping her to support all children to make good progress in their learning and development.  The childminder follows children's interests and plans effectively for their next stage in learning. This motivates children to learn, supporting them to gain skills ready for their move on to school.  The childminder celebrates each child's individuality and respects their backgrounds, cultures and beliefs. She teaches children to be tolerant of each other and they behave well.

p.1

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop the quality of teaching further, in order to support children to reach their optimal potential.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector held a meeting with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation, such as qualifications, certificates, policies, procedures and discussed the childminder's development plans.  The inspector read letters provided by parents for the inspection and took account of their views.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder keeps children safe both indoors and outdoors. She risk assesses the premises and teaches children how to recognise dangers in the environment. The childminder is aware of her responsibilities to safeguard children and she knows the process and who to refer any concerns to. The childminder is well qualified and regularly updates her knowledge and expertise. She reflects on her current practice and chooses training courses to benefit children's learning and development. This training is then used to support parents to complement their children's learning at home. Partnerships with parents are very strong.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder plans for children's individual needs. She knows each child very well and uses observation and assessment to closely monitor their progress. Accurate assessment is used to plan activities, learning opportunities and to challenge children in their play. The childminder completes a comprehensive progress check between the age of two and three years. This information is discussed with parents and shared next steps are created to support children to continually progress. Children are developing good communication and language skills. The childminder uses books and songs to encourage speech and speaks clearly to younger children to help develop their vocabulary. Children are also learning early mathematical skills and the childminder supports them to recognise shapes. Activities are enjoyed, repeated and extended to embed the new skills that children develop.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder embraces the different backgrounds and individuality of each child and their family. She takes time to ensure each child settles well in her care and ensures a trusting and secure relationship is formed with parents. The childminder liaises with parents to discuss children's changing routines, offering advice and support when needed. For example, she has helped parents to wean their children and provides information on suitably nutritious food for babies. Children are learning about healthy lifestyles. The childminder promotes outdoor play. Children are appropriately dressed to play outside, whatever the weather and parents praise the childminder for her use of the outdoor area to promote children's learning. The childminder teaches children how to respect each other and be kind, considerate and tolerant. Children behave very well; they have created good relationships with their peers and are learning positive social skills.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are making expected progress in their learning and development. The quality of teaching helps children to progress well from their starting points. All children are supported well for their next stage of learning at nursery or school.
