This provision is good
Children respond well to the childminder's warm and caring nature. She is sensitive to their individual needs and has developed close relationships with all children. As a result, children are happy, confident and demonstrate they feel safe and secure in her care. The childminder works closely with parents. She keeps them well informed of their children's progress. Parents speak highly of the childminder and the service she provides. Teaching is good. The childminder understands how children learn and provides stimulating experiences that interest them and promote learning effectively. Children are engaged and make good progress. They acquire good skills and positive attitudes to support their future education. The childminder supports children's personal development. She plans a variety of visits in the local neighbourhood to support children's understanding of the community where they live.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not recently accessed training and development opportunities to help her to develop her teaching skills and knowledge further. Information from observations is sometimes not used effectively to identify more precise next steps in children's learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further
explore further professional development opportunities to improve knowledge and good teaching skills even further make better use of information from observations and assessments to extend the challenge for children and set even more precise next steps in their learning.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, including children's learning records, and evidence of the suitability of household members. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through their written comments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of her responsibilities to keep children safe in the event of a child protection concern. She regularly attends relevant safeguarding and paediatric first-aid training to update her knowledge. Effective self-evaluation processes are in place. The childminder reflects on the impact of her own practice. She speaks to other childminders for advice and seeks parents' views for areas to improve. However, she has not recently accessed training and development opportunities to update her knowledge and improve her good skills in specific aspects of practice even further. The childminder understands the importance of liaising with other early years settings that children attend. She routinely shares information regarding children's learning and development to fully promote the continuity of care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder demonstrates a good understanding of how children learn and develop. Children take part in a variety of well-planned activities that offers suitable challenge and is linked to children's interests. For example, children are eager to use technology in their play to find out about insects and how things work. The childminder skilfully weaves opportunities for counting and number talk into activities. She joins in with children's play, talking with them and supporting more accurate pronunciation. She gives children time to answer and responds positively to younger children's babbling as she reads stories and they look at books together. The childminder undertakes effective observations of children's progress and makes accurate assessments of their achievements. However, occasionally she does not use the information gathered from observations to identify more precise next steps in children's learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy, confident and settle quickly. Children confidently move around the childminder's home, selecting toys and resources that interest them. Children frequently go on outings to the park, where they learn how to enjoy and explore the natural environment safely. Children behave well and are developing a good sense of responsibility. They understand that they need to tidy away resources when finished. The childminder offers gentle reminders of rules, such as saying please and thank you, encouraging children to learn respectful behaviour. Children receive consistent praise and acknowledgement for their achievements. Children are well supported emotionally for the move to school and pre-school.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and development. Children learn to socialise with other children. They become independent in their self-help skills in readiness for pre- school. Older children are well prepared for school. They recognise their written name and are beginning to explore letter sounds in familiar words.
