The childminder knows the children exceptionally well. She successfully draws on their individual interests to challenge and enhance their learning. Children's speech is superbly supported. The childminder introduces younger children to new words that relate to their play. Older children's listening abilities are expertly supported. One example of this is when they enjoy 'listening walks' where they identify easily recognisable sounds within the local environment. This helps to develop the skills needed ready for learning to read. The childminder proficiently plans activities that engage and motivate all children. Some examples of this are that children enjoy digging, scooping and pouring oats into different containers. They use their hands and mouths, to touch, taste and feel the texture of the oats and learn about volume and capacity. More-able children show curiosity as they watch the dial on the weighing scales move as more oats are placed onto them.

For example, she gently reminds them how to sit correctly on their chairs. The childminder provides children with lots of opportunities to develop their independence skills. They are able to make choices over what they play with as resources are easily accessible to them. The childminder encourages children to learn about the world beyond her home. Amongst other things they enjoy watching a clip of Chinese New Year celebrations. The childminder intuitively anticipates when children need food, drink or a rest. She encourages children to
