This provision is good

 Children make good progress in their development. The childminder provides a wide range of activities and resources to help children remain motivated and engaged in their play.  The childminder makes accurate observations and assessments of what children can do. She has effective arrangements in place to plan suitably challenging activities to help children develop at a good pace.  Children are emotionally ready for their next stage of learning. They learn to be independent and express their own needs. The childminder helps them to understand how to play with one another and form good friendships.  The childminder makes accurate evaluations of her practice, which she uses to strengthen the quality of her provision. She accesses regular training to develop her knowledge and improve her skills.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not consistently share information with parents about some aspects of children's progress, in order to strengthen children's learning from the start.  The childminder misses some opportunities to build on children's role-play interests to support their imaginative play even further.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen the already good partnerships with parents to help them have a more precise understanding of children's learning from the outset  develop the range of opportunities children have to explore and develop their role-play skills.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with the children and their daily play routines.  The inspector took account of the written views of parents.  The inspector and the childminder evaluated a planned activity together.  The inspector viewed a range of documentation, including policies and procedures, and children's records.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder evaluates her service well. For example, she identifies how to strengthen her teaching through training and information from other professionals. The childminder considers the views of parents and children, and sets improvements that will improve children's experiences and learning. For example, she is developing further the range of outdoor resources in response to observations of children's play. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands local child protection procedures and knows what to do if she is concerned for a child's safety. The childminder takes appropriate action to minimise hazards in activities and experiences. Overall, she develops good partnerships with parents and makes sure play and care routines meet children's needs well.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides children with a good level of challenge in their play, to extend their learning further. She monitors their development closely, making accurate observations and using these to plan next steps for future learning. The childminder reflects other languages children speak at home in their play to help support their language development. The childminder uses questions and conversations to test and challenge children's thinking, offering explanations that help improve their understanding during play. For example, she asks children what different materials smell and feel like, to encourage them to use their senses and help them learn new vocabulary.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder encourages children to develop their thinking skills and understanding of routines. For example, during lunch preparations, she asks them what they think is going to happen next. The childminder manages children's safety and hygiene effectively. She helps children learn how to keep themselves safe; for example, she closely supervises them as they wash their hands by themselves, before beginning their meal. Children are confident and explore the resources freely, secure in the knowledge that the childminder is nearby to help if needed.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop good physical skills. For example, they use tools to make marks as they draw. They develop good communication skills. For example, they explain what they are thinking and learn new words as they play with small-world toys. Children develop a good understanding of the world around them and a respect for others. For example, the childminder introduces festivals and celebrations into their play.
