This provision is good

 The childminder has a strong partnership with parents. Regular discussions help to ensure they feel fully involved and able to contribute to their children's learning and development. Parents speak well of the care their children receive.  The childminder offers exceptional levels of kind and considerate care. The children form very close relationships with her and they are completely secure.  The childminder makes sympathetic and creative use of her home, which is safe, interesting and supports children's learning well. Outcomes for children are good. Children make at least typical progress in relation to others of the same age.  Children are able to move around the home, safely exploring the resources and taking safe risks, which supports children's personal development and their emotional well- being very effectively.  Children gain respect for others in their local and wider community. They visit different

parks, drop-in groups and places of interest to broaden their learning experiences.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always make the best use of all opportunities to encourage children to be more familiar with letters and words, to boost their literacy development as much as possible.  The childminder reviews the quality of her work well, overall. However, she does not seek the views of children and parents to help her to improve her service further.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 increase opportunities for children to recognise and use words and letters to extend their early literacy skills even further  strengthen the processes of self-evaluation to include the views of parents and children.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector and childminder discussed the systems she uses to observe and record the children's progress, and the documents used to support her work.  The inspector completed observations of the children engaged in activities with the childminder.  The inspector sampled written feedback from parents made available during the inspection.  The inspector viewed the rooms and resources used by the children.  The inspector discussed the childminder's systems of evaluation and the impact of training on her work.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has completed relevant training and fully understands the procedures to follow if she has any concerns about the safety and welfare of the children. The childminder is fully committed to continually improving her setting and regularly reflects on the quality of her provision. She attends training and meetings with other professionals to update her knowledge and gain new ideas. This has a positive impact on the care she provides and on outcomes for children. The childminder observes and assesses the children's achievements. She records detailed assessments of their progress and uses these to plan challenging experiences for each child. She seeks support from other professionals if she has any concerns about their progress.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides a varied range of exciting activities that stimulate and motivate the children to learn. For example, when children used celery heads for printing cards, the childminder provided suitable resources that enabled them to cut the celery safely and make their own patterns. This helped children develop good levels of self-confidence and understand safe risks. The childminder provides good opportunities for children to learn about the natural world. For example, they plant bulbs and learn how to care for them. Furthermore, children enjoy regular opportunities to explore the environment and develop their physical skills. For example, they learn to balance on logs in the local park.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder offers exceptionally kind and thoughtful care to the children, which helps them to feel ready to explore. She uses her in-depth knowledge of the children to ensure all their learning experiences are fun. For example, children learn to make healthy choices as they thoroughly enjoy making their own pizzas. There is a lot of excitement and children learn to be patient as they wait for the pizza to cook. The childminder recognises children's successes and uses high levels of praise, helping them to feel confident in their own abilities. The children play well together. They are very good friends and demonstrate high levels of security and self-worth.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are fully secure and self-confident. Practical activities help children develop skills for their future learning and their eventual move on to school.
