This provision is good

 The manager and staff establish effective partnerships with parents and share good information about children's well-being and learning. For example, staff regularly invite parents into the pre-school to share their children's learning and pre-school experiences.  Children receive good support to promote their mathematical development. For instance, staff use activities effectively to help children count and learn about mathematical language.  The manager and staff observe and support children's play and learning well. Children make good progress in their learning and development.  Children are confident and independent. For example, they enjoy cutting up their own snack and putting their coats and shoes on.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Children do not consistently have the best possible opportunities to learn about diversity in the wider world.  Staff do not always make the most of daily opportunities to teach children about the importance of personal hygiene practices.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend children's awareness of people's similarities and differences in the wider world  improve children's understanding and learning about the need for good hygiene practices and how they can protect themselves from cross infection.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector took into account the views of parents on the day.  The inspector observed the quality of teaching indoors and outdoors.  The inspector held a meeting with the manager and spoke to the chairperson of the committee.  The inspector checked documents, including suitability checks for staff and the committee, children's learning records, and policies and procedures.  The inspector carried out a joint observation with the manager.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The committee, manager and staff have worked hard to improve the pre-school practices since the last inspection. They have completed the previous action and recommendations well. There are good development plans to help them continue to improve. Safeguarding is effective. Staff understand how to keep children safe and what to do if they have concerns about children's welfare. Staff work well with other early years professionals. They share good information to meet children's individual learning needs and help them make progress. The manager provides good ongoing support for staff to develop their practice. For example, they develop the quality of teaching through training and discussion. Management uses additional funding well to promote good outcomes for all children. The manager and staff monitor children's individual learning progress well to identify positive next steps in their development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The quality of teaching is good. The qualified staff team is enthusiastic and keen to encourage children's learning and development. Staff use information from their knowledge of individual children effectively to provide challenge and to motivate them. For example, they help children to think about taking appropriate risks during their play. Children receive good support to develop their communication and language. For example, staff use gestures and signing to support younger children's understanding. Staff encourage all children to take an active part in story time.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff provide a welcoming and friendly environment for children and families. Children are happy and settled. They make independent choices in their play and learning. Staff are close by to provide positive support and guidance where needed. Children enjoy learning good social skills, such as at snack time and during games. For example, they pass items to each other and learn to understand other people's needs. Staff support children to behave well. For instance, they remind them about what is expected in a calm and positive manner. Overall, children receive positive messages about leading healthy lifestyles. For example, they have exercise in the fresh air and have nutritious snacks. Staff help children to respect each other's views and all children have the opportunity to speak and share their ideas.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children, including disabled children, those who have special educational needs and those for whom the setting receives additional funding, make good progress. They learn key skills in readiness for the move on to school. Children learn about the written word and letters as, for example, they routinely see their names in print.
