This provision is good

 Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. The childminder uses observations and assessments effectively to monitor children's development and help them achieve the next steps in their learning.  Children are developing good independence. They learn to manage many tasks for themselves to build their confidence. For example, children help to chop and serve food for themselves and others at mealtimes.  The childminder promotes children's health and physical development well in many ways. For example, she provides music and movement activities for older children and supports babies closely in using their emerging mobility safely.  The childminder attends training and meetings with other childminders. She uses the guidance to provide exciting new activities to motivate children to learn more.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always encourage children to extend their mathematical skills further, for example, by talking about different shapes in their play.  The childminder has completed a self-evaluation form. However, this does not successfully monitor all aspects of children's care and learning and does not regularly include the views of all parents.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 make the most of all opportunities to strengthen children's understanding of shapes  develop self-evaluation to monitor all aspects of the childminding provision and include the views of parents more effectively.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the quality of the childminder's interaction with the children.  The inspector observed the management of children's care routines.  The inspector looked at children's assessment records.  The inspector sampled the childminder's documentation and discussed her knowledge of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of her role and responsibilities to promote children's welfare. She has successful procedures to help protect them from harm and to respond in the event of a concern about a child. The childminder creates a safe and secure environment, and helps children to learn how to keep themselves safe. The childminder has taken steps to address the recommendation from the last inspection. She reflects on aspects of her provision to introduce new activities and to prioritise training.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder uses her good teaching skills and effective interactions to promote children's learning well. She regularly adapts activities to include and engage children according to their developmental stage. For example, she uses objects and pictures with stories, songs and games to promote older children's language and literacy skills. Alongside, she encourages babies to use their senses to investigate the objects. The childminder provides lots of opportunities for children to communicate and express themselves individually. For example, she creates time each day for older children to perform songs and jokes which they laugh at together. Children show pride in their achievements and efforts as the childminder claps and praises them to build their self- confidence.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder works closely with parents to promote children's well-being effectively and to meet babies' care routines consistently. She soothes babies warmly to help them settle to sleep and provides quieter activities, such as reading a book, when older children become tired. Children develop positive attitudes and good social skills through the childminder's values and expectations. The childminder provides lots of opportunities for children to learn about their world. For example, children explore changes in the environment through the seasons, collect natural resources and observe wildlife. Children explore one another's cultures to learn about their own lives and those of their friends.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning and development from their starting points. They develop the skills required for their future learning and moving on to school.
