This provision is good
The childminder provides a broad range of stimulating activities that challenge children well. Children make good progress from their starting points. Children have good opportunities to develop their independence and self-care skills. The childminder gives lots of praise and encouragement and children develop good levels of self-esteem. Partnerships with parents are strong. The childminder and parents share regular information about children's progress at the setting and at home, which provides continuity in children's learning. The childminder reflects on her teaching practice well. She has completed a degree since her previous inspection and uses the good knowledge gained to support children's learning effectively. She uses children's and parents' views to make improvements to her setting and maintain positive outcomes for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always encourage children to develop their problem-solving skills effectively. The childminder does not make the most of every chance to develop children's understanding of healthy lifestyles, such as to discuss the benefit of eating healthy foods.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the areas used for childminding. The inspector read testimonials from parents to gain their views. The inspector observed the childminder and children during play. The inspector examined a sample of policies, documents and children's records. The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation process.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder completes thorough risk assessments of her home and outings to ensure children's safety. She knows the procedures to follow if she has concerns for a child's welfare. The childminder monitors children's learning effectively. She has successfully addressed recommendations made at her previous inspection. She has improved the way she plans and assesses children's learning. Parents speak highly of the childminder's kindness and care, and their children's progress. The childminder regularly attends training to keep her teaching skills and knowledge up to date and to guide improvements for children. She occasionally uses an assistant; she understands her responsibility to monitor their practice and ensure they complete any necessary training to carry out their role. The childminder regularly shares information with other settings children attend to provide a cohesive approach to children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder makes regular observations and assessments of children's achievements. She effectively uses the information gained, and her good knowledge of how children learn, to plan for children's further learning. The childminder engages children well in conversations. The childminder routinely includes opportunities for children to count and solve number problems.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder forms positive relationships with children and promotes their emotional well-being effectively. Children have daily opportunities to be physically active. They develop an understanding of how to keep themselves safe through a variety of activities. For instance, children take part in regular evacuation drills and learn about road safety when on outings with the childminder.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning. They enjoy exploring the environment and make independent choices in their play. They develop confidence and the key skills they need for future learning, and the move on to school. Children explore early technology and develop good mathematical skills. They willingly take part in activities with the childminder. For example, they excitedly joined in an activity to make pancakes. Children have good opportunities to develop their writing skills and to learn to recognise their names. They love books and share these with the childminder. Children develop good social skills as they mix with others and behave very well. They learn about effective hygiene practices and eat healthy meals and snacks. Children gain a strong awareness of the world around them and how to respect the environment. For example, they learn about different festivals through a variety of activities and discuss the recycling process.
