She regularly reflects on all areas of her provision, supports her assistant's professional development and closely monitors children's progress.  The childminder has strong relationships with parents and other settings where children attend. This helps to promote good continuity in their learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always provide a wide range of opportunities for children to build on their creativity skills.  The environment is not always organised in a way that encourages children to access resources and make their own choices.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant attend safeguarding training and are aware of their responsibility to help protect children. For example, they know what to do if they have any concerns about children's welfare. The childminder gives high priority to children's safety. For example, she carries out regular risk assessments and teaches children how to keep safe. The childminder continues to develop and improve her knowledge. For example, she attends training, talks to other early years providers and does her own research. The childminder communicates regularly with parents and other settings that children attend. She understands the importance of working in partnership to provide consistent care and learning experiences for individual children. For example, the childminder works closely with staff to reinforce children's existing skills and effectively supports their next steps in learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows the children in her care very well. She uses her observations and assessments successfully to plan and provide children with exciting activities based on their individual needs and interests. The childminder supports their physical development well, for example, children connect blocks, create sounds with instruments and use different movements when dancing. The childminder skilfully incorporates mathematical language into children's play. For example, she talks about colours, sizes and numbers. The childminder effectively encourages children's learning as, for instance, children enjoy singing songs, using musical instruments and sharing books. The childminder extends children's developing vocabulary well.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a friendly and welcoming environment. She gathers detailed information from parents, which helps her to make sure that children settle quickly. Children are very happy, relaxed and keen for the childminder and her assistant to join their play. The childminder promotes a healthy lifestyle. For example, children enjoy healthy snacks and they benefit from daily opportunities for fresh air and exercise. The childminder recognises the importance of teaching children to manage their personal needs, in preparation for their move on to school. For example, they confidently put on aprons and wash their hands. Children learn to respect and value each other's differences through a good range of activities.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress. They learn the skills they need for their next steps in learning. Children have fun exploring and investigating. For example, they enjoy pouring water using different containers.
