This provision is good

 The childminder monitors children's learning well. She provides a good range of learning experiences that interest children and adjusts these to meet their individual development levels. All children make good progress from their initial starting points.  The partnerships with parents are good. Children benefit from the consistent joined-up approach between their homes and the setting, which helps the childminder know and meet their individual care needs effectively.  Children behave well and are emotionally secure. The childminder organises the indoor environment well to stimulate children's play. Children are safe and secure, and happily select toys of interest to them. They enjoy their activities.  The childminder has a clear commitment to her professional development. She uses what she has learnt from courses effectively to deliver consistent, good-quality teaching and to help the children move on progressively in their learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not provide activities to meet all children's learning requirements as well as possible.  The childminder does not take into account the views of all involved with her service in order to help her evaluate it as rigorously as possible.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 take every opportunity to extend children's outdoor learning experiences  extend self-evaluation methods fully.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector and the childminder completed a joint observation and they discussed children's learning through the inspection.  The inspector observed teaching and the impact this had on children's learning.  The inspector took account of parents' views through written comments.  The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder, a selection of children's records, and the safeguarding policy.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder keeps her knowledge up to date and continually improves her practice. She understands clearly her responsibility to report any concerns about children's welfare and is thoroughly aware of the steps to take if needed. The childminder monitors children's attendance. She risk assesses her home carefully, so children play in a safe environment. Safeguarding is effective. Parents are happy with the service that they receive and are involved well in their children's learning. The childminder fully understands the importance of working in partnership with other professionals involved in the care of children, to provide continuity in their care and learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and develop. She promotes children's learning with a stimulating range of activities that challenge and interest them, including toddlers. The childminder engages children, who particularly enjoy story times. The childminder is skilled at encouraging their enthusiasm, and in supporting their understanding and maintaining their concentration. For example, she gets down to their level to encourage children to be involved and engaged. The childminder observes and assesses the children's progress well. She identifies children's next stages in learning accurately. She uses this information well to provide enjoyable learning experiences, based on children's unique abilities. The childminder interacts successfully to support, encourage and challenge children effectively in their play.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder works together with parents from the outset and supports their children's emotional well-being effectively. For example, on occasions, she visits children in their homes so that they get to know her. She develops trusting relationships with the children. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles effectively. For example, children have access to daily exercise and the childminder meets their physical needs well. Children make choices for themselves as they play. For example, toddlers play with a good range of toys and resources, which are stored at their height in inviting and cosy areas.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress in their learning. Children develop their physical and social skills, and have positive attitudes to trying new things that help prepare them well for the next stage in their learning.
