This provision is good

 Leaders and managers robustly reflect on all aspects of the provision. They successfully use what they discover to devise and implement clear priorities for improvement. Prompt and effective action has been taken in respect of weaknesses identified at the last inspection.  Staff are very kind and caring. They know the children in their care well and understand their individual needs. Comprehensive information is gathered from parents to help protect their children's welfare. This includes their emergency contact details and clear information about any medical conditions that their children may have.  Staff understand how children learn, and the quality of their teaching is good. Staff carefully track children's progress and provide a wealth of interesting and challenging activities that helps children successfully develop and learn.  The nursery provides children with a very welcoming, stimulating and well-resourced

learning environment. A wealth of useful information is displayed for staff, parents and visitors, including lots of examples of children's artwork.  Partnerships with parents and other professionals are successful and foster a consistent approach to children's care and education. Staff respect parents' views and encourage them to take an active role in their children's learning and development.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Staff access a well-established programme of professional development. However, some of the knowledge and skills gained through this are not used effectively to raise the quality of teaching to a higher level.  Children do not have the very best opportunities to gain a greater awareness of differences and similarities in people, culture, languages and traditions.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 make better use of the knowledge and skills gained through professional development opportunities to further enhance the quality of teaching  extend opportunities for children to develop a greater awareness of similarities and differences in people, languages, culture and traditions.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed two joint observations with the provider.  The inspector looked at a sample of policies, children's records and checked evidence of the suitability and qualifications of staff working with children.  The inspector had a tour of the setting with the provider.  The inspector spoke with the provider, manager, staff and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to on the day of inspection, and those recorded on questionnaires and letters.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff understand the signs that may suggest a child is at risk of suffering abuse, neglect or harm. They know the action to take in the event of any safeguarding concerns. The premises are safe and secure and risk assessment is robust. Accidents and incidents are clearly recorded and the provider understands the circumstances when Ofsted or other agencies need to be notified. The provider is very ambitious and the nursery shows a strong capacity for further improvement. Individual staff members regularly meet with the management team to discuss their performance and set targets for their professional development. Policies and procedures are known and understood by all staff. They are implemented well and effectively support the safe and efficient management of the nursery.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The well-qualified staff team includes many highly enthusiastic teachers. Staff skilfully make learning experiences fun and meaningful for children. They carefully consider the individual needs and interests of children when they plan activities, and topics are often used to inspire learning. Many of the younger children are fascinated by animals and this has led to discussions about animal noises. Staff and children sing songs about animals and a selection of plastic animals is readily available to inspire and support children's imaginative play. Pre-school children show an interest in their bodies and staff skilfully plan experiences that encourage them to recognise their different body parts. Children of all ages regularly play outside and quickly learn about the impact of physical exercise on their bodies. Children are keen to participate in planned experiences and young children are learning to communicate in a variety of ways. Staff are teaching them basic sign

language and make a point of speaking clearly and at children's level. These teaching methods are just some of the ways that staff provide effective support for children's developing speaking, listening and understanding skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are keen to attend nursery. They enjoy being in the company of their key persons and are developing strong friendships with other children. Staff provide plenty of opportunities for children to learn how to listen, to respect other people and to express how they feel. Staff manage children's behaviour very well. They thoughtfully use happy and sad faces, alongside various gestures, to promote and encourage positive behaviours. Children make lots of choices about their play and staff actively encourage them to try and do some simple tasks independently. Children's good behaviour, efforts and achievements are readily acknowledged by staff. This helps to build their confidence and self-esteem.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children, including those who receive funded education, make good progress given their starting points. Gaps are closing for disabled children and those with special educational needs. Children who speak English as an additional language are gaining confidence in speaking and are starting to learn English alongside their home languages. Children are gaining the key skills to support their future learning.
