This provision is good
The childminder maintains a clear record of development for individual children. Her effective assessment procedures monitor children's progress well and show that children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder has strong links with other settings that children attend. Their positive partnerships effectively support the childminder to build on what children learn elsewhere. This helps children to develop good skills and prepares them well for school. Children enjoy a good range of activities that cover all areas of learning and development. The childminder skilfully uses children's ideas and interests in play, to effectively encourage and help them to learn. The childminder reflects well on the effectiveness of her provision and makes improvements that benefit the children. She completes relevant training and researches information to update her childcare knowledge and skills.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always extend opportunities to help parents more to support their children's learning at home. The childminder does not always effectively reinforce younger children's self-awareness and help them recall previous learning and experiences.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
provide more opportunities for parents to support and extend their children's learning at home promote younger children's self-awareness more, to help them recall and talk about events and previous experiences.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and children in their indoor activities. The inspector held discussions with the childminder. The inspector looked at a sample of children's development records. The inspector read feedback from parents and the childminder's self-evaluation form. The inspector checked the safety of the premises.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder uses her previous childcare experience well and successfully adapts her teaching to suit children's individual learning needs. For example, she follows flexible routines and spontaneously amends plans to enable children to lead their play. The childminder uses knowledge gained from courses effectively to improve and develop her practice. For instance, she has made resources more accessible to younger children and increased the range of sensory play activities, resulting in them exploring and investigating more. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure awareness of her Local Safeguarding Children Board procedures, which enables her to protect children's welfare. The childminder has warm relationships with parents and involves them well in her self- evaluation process to promote ongoing changes to her service.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a stimulating environment and interacts well with children to help them learn. The childminder makes learning fun and children are eager to join in the various activities. She ensures activities build on children's interests. For example, children particularly enjoy imaginative games, such as pretending to cook and have tea parties. They act out stories and take turns to be a particular character or animal. The childminder makes good use of outdoor activities to inspire and challenge children physically. For example, children learn to use tree roots safely to help them climb up slopes and a bank in the woods.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder manages children's behaviour well. She gently teaches children to think of others and to understand the consequences of their actions. This helps children to adapt their behaviour and learn about feelings and emotions. Young children know when something is wrong and say how it makes them 'not happy'. The childminder effectively promotes children's awareness of being safe. For example, in role play, children confidently say that their toy cooker and cakes are 'hot'. The childminder has a good awareness of children's individual needs, which she meets well. Children are well cared for and form close attachments with the childminder, which effectively supports their personal, social and emotional development.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are happy and feel safe. They play well together and have good levels of concentration. Jumping and balancing games provide fun opportunities for children to practise their physical skills. Children learn to share, cooperate and socialise well with others. These skills prepare them well for future learning and moving on to school.
