p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder has robust practices to keep children safe. She meticulously implements her policies and procedures, and carries out highly effective risk assessments. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an excellent knowledge of how to protect children from risk of harm. She attends regular training and continues to develop her understanding of new legislation. Through her professional development, the childminder has made excellent changes to significantly enhance the care of two-year-old children. The childminder actively works in partnership with other early years providers. She meets with them and shares valuable information that helps them have a highly consistent approach to children's care and learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder has an outstanding awareness of how children learn, using children's interests extremely well to motivate them. She provides excellent support for children's language and communication skills. Young children's speech is extremely clear, using full sentences and following instructions accurately. The childminder skilfully encourages children to persevere with tasks, think of solutions to problems and learn through trial and error. The childminder uses all opportunities to extend children's mathematical development, such as recognising shapes, counting items and recognising which is the largest. Children use a wide range of books and the childminder skilfully encourages them to use them independently. For example, children use books to tell their favourite stories to their dolls. However, the childminder occasionally misses opportunities to encourage early writing skills as successfully.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children are happy and highly confident in the childminder's home. She organises her environment exceptionally well to enable children to be highly independent. They move freely around the indoor and outdoor environments to get the resources they need and play where they learn best. Children are very good at caring for themselves and show in their play that they have an impressive knowledge of safe and healthy practices. For example, children get their dolls drinks of water to stop them getting thirsty. Young children strap themselves into booster seats saying they 'do not want to slip out'. The childminder provides extremely imaginative support and activities to help children understand about people's differences. For example, children gain an extremely positive awareness of what it is like to be blind or deaf. They celebrate cultural festivals and learn about the similarities and differences in people's lives.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children make excellent progress from their starting points. They develop an extremely positive attitude to learning and gain outstanding skills that prepare them well for school.
