This provision is good

 The childminder understands how to promote the health and safety of children. She has assessed the risks at her premises and for outings to keep children safe.  The childminder effectively monitors children's progress and uses this information to plan age-appropriate and stimulating activities based on their interests. Children make good progress in their learning and development.  Children build secure emotional attachments with the childminder. Children all settle-in quickly, including those who are new to the setting. The childminder provides reassurance and is responsive to their needs.  The childminder has established effective partnerships with parents. She understands the benefits of working with parents and builds on children's learning at home with consistent and quality learning experiences.  The childminder is committed to her professional development. She targets training to improve her practice and to benefit individual children to help them achieve well.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder has not established fully effective partnerships with other settings children attend to provide strong continuity for children's care and learning.  The childminder does not actively encourage children to talk confidently and freely about the people and events that make up their life experiences.

p.1

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a thorough understanding of her role to protect children from harm and the procedures to follow should she have any concerns regarding their welfare. Her well-organised documentation and detailed policies successfully underpin the efficient management of her service. The childminder and her co-childminders work seamlessly together. The childminder uses self-evaluation to identify her strengths and weaknesses. She attends training to improve her skills and knowledge. Children benefit from good learning experiences; for example, following training, the childminder introduced circle time, which has helped to strengthen children's language development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children confidently move around the setting. The childminder organises the resources at a low level to help children to make choices in their play. Children are active learners who are keen to join in and have a go. The childminder supports children's sensory exploration well. Children enjoyed investigating the texture of ice. They pressed and squeezed it between their fingers and used a range of utensils to chisel and hammer, and to fill bowls with ice. The childminder skilfully helps children to develop their communication and language skills. She gives children time to think and respond with their ideas. The childminder observes children's play and joins in to extend their learning; for example, she asks questions to help them solve problems. The childminder makes precise assessments and uses these to plan enjoyable learning experiences for children. She skilfully weaves challenge and support into children's play to help them progress.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides children with a warm and welcoming environment. Children happily explore and choose items of interest from a wide range of resources and toys. Children behave well and respond positively to the childminder's calm and consistent manner. Children clearly enjoy their time with the childminder. She positively praises their achievements and gently reminds children about acceptable behaviour as they learn to share and take turns. The childminder promotes children's physical well-being effectively; for example, children enjoy the healthy foods that she provides.

p.3
