This provision is good

 The childminder has a good understanding of the children's interests and needs. She uses this information effectively to engage children in their learning. All children make good progress.  The childminder has strong supportive relationships with the children. This helps them to settle quickly and engage in the activities on offer.  The childminder has developed a positive partnership with parents and shares information with them daily. This ensures consistency of care.  Children's behaviour is excellent. The childminder provides extensive opportunities for children to develop their understanding of others' needs. For example, young children show kindness when sharing toys and food with babies.  The childminder communicates effectively with young children and they feel engaged with the activities on offer. For example, she gives them opportunities to express preferences about what they would like to eat, or which resources they would like to

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always evaluate information from parents to identify children's starting points to help identify rates of progress.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop more accurate ways of evaluating starting points of all children to show that they are making rapid progress

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector toured the areas of the premises that children use.  The inspector read written comments from parents to obtain their views.  The inspector observed children and the childminder's interaction with them during their play and learning activities.  The inspector reviewed a sample of written policies and other documents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection procedures and what to do if she is worried that a child may be at risk of harm. This helps her to support children's welfare effectively. She seeks the views of parents, which are very positive. She uses the information from parents to feed into her reflective self- evaluation process. The childminder has built strong relationships with parents, which support this process. The childminder attends relevant courses, for example she has undertaken first aid training and is well equipped to deal with any issues that may arise.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows what children are interested in. She uses this knowledge well to make individualised learning opportunities. For example, after singing 'The wheels on the bus', she encourages young children to draw the bus, asking who will be on their bus. They count an appropriate number of windows to draw the people; she then encourages children to write their name on the picture. The childminder takes children to local playgroups where they have the opportunity to interact with a wider group of children and to try new experiences. The childminder regularly observes the children and checks that they are at, or above, a level of development appropriate for their age. She uses this information to plan stimulating activities for children.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder develops extremely nurturing relationships with children. This supports their confidence to engage with new people and try the variety of new activities on offer. Her professional development ensures she has an excellent understanding of how to help children view themselves as part of a community and develop emotional well-being. For example, young children are encouraged to help prepare snack by peeling fruits. The childminder constantly praises children's efforts and then asks if they are prepared to share their fruit with younger children, which they happily do. Children respond extremely well to praise from the childminder. For example, young children who have just started to walk smile at her as she congratulates them as they walk across the room. The childminder has an exceptional understanding of how to support children's choices about their behaviour. This leads to children making responsible choices and their behaviour is

p.3
