This provision is good
Children are secure, settled and enjoy learning and playing with the childminder. They make good progress with all aspects of their language and communication development and physical skills. The childminder supports children's learning well. She has a good understanding of children's development and makes sure their vocabulary is continually developed. She uses children's choices of activity well to develop a wider range of skills. She talks to children continually. The childminder works well with parents and other early years settings that the children attend to make sure that they are developing as expected. If she has any concerns then she alerts parents quickly. The childminder has a good relationship with each individual child and supports their independent self-care skills well. The childminder makes sure that her training is up to date and that she meets statutory requirements. Parents say that children enjoy coming to the childminder.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Children do not always have enough opportunity to choose toys and resources for themselves. Children are not always given enough opportunity to fully develop their independence, creativity and imagination, for example, when they choose materials for crafts activities.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

improve the storage and choice of resources to provide the best opportunities for learning and play give children a wide range of choice of materials when engaged in creative activities.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed teaching and learning indoors and outdoors, and discussed how the local area is used. The inspector spoke to the childminder at convenient times. The inspector checked safeguarding information, including certificates, and examined the premises. The inspector reviewed evidence of communication with parents and took into account the views of parents. The inspector reviewed the resources available.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good range of procedures to make sure that children are well cared for and safe. She makes sure she has all the information she needs from parents to meet the specific needs of each individual child. Daily communication is effective in making sure information from parents is continually updated. The childminder knows exactly how to protect children and who to alert if she has any concerns. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder reviews her policies and procedures regularly and knows what she needs to do to improve learning opportunities further.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans the day's activities with the children each morning so that they are motivated and interested in what they are doing. She follows their interests well while they are playing, making resources available to them. The quality of teaching is good; for example, if they want to play with the tea set, she joins in their play, continually developing their vocabulary and understanding. Children develop their mathematical language well. For instance, they frequently choose craft and painting activities and the childminder helps them to compare sizes and count. She uses careful questioning and suggestions to develop children's early communication skills. The childminder has a good knowledge of how young children develop so that she can provide activities that speed this up. She uses their individual interests well to provide stimulating play. Children extend their physical development and learning well. For example, they always have opportunities

to play outdoors in the garden. They increase their knowledge of the wider world; for example, the childminder takes children out to local parks and sometimes the zoo.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children have a good relationship with the childminder and she is good role model. They are confident and relate to her well. They are very settled and secure when they are at the setting because the childminder is sensitive to their individual needs and knows them well. Children learn to use the toilet, wash their hands and eat independently. The childminder makes sure the garden is safe for the children's play and introduces them sensitively to her dogs, maintaining effective hygiene procedures. She uses books well to extend children's understanding of other cultures and the effect of disabilities. She makes sure that outdoor equipment is safe and available for them to use.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children's behaviour clearly demonstrates the good progress they are making. They are well prepared for the next stage of their education. They make a good start at being inquiring and confident learners.
