This provision is good
The childminder provides children with a range of interesting resources that are age appropriate and which challenge them well. Children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder promotes children's safety and well-being effectively through a variety of activities and routines. She minimises risks to children so they can move around safely and freely. The childminder gives children lots of praise and encouragement. She is very attentive to their needs. Children display high levels of self-esteem. The childminder reflects on her teaching practice effectively and attends regular training which benefits children and their families. She keeps up to date with changes to legislation through research and by sharing information with other childminders.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always gain enough information from parents about children's achievements from home, to inform future planning and provide as much continuity as possible in children's learning. The childminder does not always make the most of opportunities to encourage younger children to use all of their senses to explore and investigate, to gain a deeper understanding of the world around them.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the inside and outside areas used for childminding. The inspector observed children, carried out a joint observation with the childminder and discussed children's progress. The inspector read feedback from parents to gain their views. The inspector examined a sample of policies, documents and other paperwork. The inspector spoke with the childminder about the self-evaluation process.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure awareness of the procedures to follow should she have concerns about a child's welfare. She shows commitment to providing good quality care. The childminder effectively monitors the progress children make and shares her findings with parents, to involve them in their child's learning. She considers parents' and children's views to guide improvements to her teaching practice. The childminder successfully identifies strengths and areas for development. For example, children now have an improved outdoor space in which to play and learn. Parents speak highly of the childminder, praising the care their children receive and the progress they make.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder carries out meaningful observations and accurate assessments of the children. She uses this information to create clear next steps to guide children's progress. The childminder interacts positively with children and supports their early language skills well. For instance, she listens to children and repeats correct language to help extend their vocabulary. The childminder uses every opportunity to help children develop good early mathematical skills. For example, she introduces numbers into songs and children count the fruit at snack time. Children enjoy exploring technological toys and they develop good physical skills as, for example, they learn to push the buttons and turn the dials. They develop an interest in books and enjoy taking part in creative activities. The childminder helps prepare children well for future learning. For example, she takes them to various groups to give them opportunities to mix with others.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children form positive relationships with the childminder. They settle quickly into her care. Children learn the boundaries and behave well. They learn to be independent as they make choices in their play, and they develop good hygiene practices. For example, the childminder supports children to wash their hands before eating and after messy play. Children learn about differences between themselves and others through the good variety of experiences and resources the childminder provides. She also helps them develop a strong awareness of living healthy lifestyles. Children have daily opportunities to have fresh air and exercise and they eat healthy snacks and meals.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress. They develop confidence in their abilities and are ready to learn. They gain the keys skills they need for future learning and their eventual move on to school.
