This provision is good
The childminder has warm, relaxed relationships with the children, who are confident and secure in her care. Children's health benefits from their frequent access to energetic activities and the childminder's passion in meeting children's physical development. The childminder makes very effective use of local facilities to support children's learning, especially their awareness of the local environment and people in the community. The childminder keeps well informed of good childcare practice and requirements. She attends training and regularly meets with other professionals to help update her skills and develop new ideas. The childminder uses comprehensive assessments to monitor children's achievements and ensure that all children make good progress from their starting points. She communicates effectively with parents and involves them in their children's learning to ensure that all keep well informed about children's needs and progress.

Inspection activities
The inspector took account of the views of parents recorded in the childminder's feedback records. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector observed activities in the childminder's house and garden. The inspector held discussions with the childminder at convenient times. The inspector checked documents relating to the suitability and qualifications of the childminder and sampled documentation regarding planning and children's progress.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder ably monitors the effectiveness of her educational provision to identify and plan for gaps in children's learning and to help drive improvement in her provision. The childminder reflects on her practice well. Since she registered, she has developed her documentation to detail procedures for her to follow and ensure parents are clear about her practices. She seeks the views of parents to help her identify areas for ongoing development. The childminder uses her training effectively to develop her practice, especially to promote children's communication skills. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear knowledge of child protection issues and the procedures to follow to protect children from harm.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her secure knowledge of individual children and their developmental levels to build effectively on their abilities. For example, indoors, she encourages children to use mathematical language to count, compare and describe the size and weight of pebbles and stones. The childminder supports children's speech and communication skills very well. She involves them in selecting and joining in action songs and nursery rhymes, and children listen with interest to stories, learning about the world around them. The childminder varies activities to match children's ages and abilities, and challenge them appropriately. For example, when they are eating shaped savoury biscuits, she encourages the young children to find and name the shapes, and the older ones to identify more complex ones, such as oval and hexagon. Children develop very good physical skills. The childminder encourages them to jump, hop, run and negotiate space safely, and children
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children confidently access and explore toys and resources in the childminder's home, helping to develop their confidence and independence. The childminder models and reinforces good hygiene practices. She works closely with parents to monitor and meet children's health needs. The childminder encourages children to help prepare and eat nutritious foods. The childminder celebrates and praises children's achievements and considerate behaviour, helping them develop positive self-esteem and to enjoy the results of behaving well.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children play well with others. The younger ones develop good social skills during their visits to local toddler groups with the childminder, and older children recognise and find letters linked to their names. These skills prepare them well for future learning and moving on to school and pre-school.
