children effectively to make good progress from their starting points.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always encourage parents to share their views when she is reflecting on and evaluating her practice to improve outcomes for children.  The childminder has not fully developed arrangements for working with other settings that children attend to promote more consistency in promoting their care and learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide consistent opportunities for parents to share their ideas and be involved in evaluating and developing the childminder's practice and experiences for children  strengthen partnerships with other settings that children attend to promote greater consistency and continuity in promoting their care and learning.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has completed child protection training and understands the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child's welfare. Training, such as paediatric first aid and child protection, supports the childminder's understanding about keeping children safe. Overall, the childminder has positive partnerships with parents. Comments from parents show that they are happy with the care the childminder provides. They are confident that their children are safe and well cared for. The childminder works well to monitor children's development and close any gaps in their learning. Children are supported to play in a safe environment as the childminder has a good awareness of managing and identifying risks.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder plans well to meet children's individual needs and interests. She supports young children's emerging language well. For example, she talks to them, listens carefully and encourages them to repeat what she is saying. Children enjoy story times. They choose their books and snuggle alongside the childminder to listen and join in. Younger children enjoy exploring the shape sorters and develop their early mathematical and problem-solving skills as they try to fit different shapes into the holes.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children have positive relationships with the childminder; they are happy and settled. This helps to promote their physical and emotional well-being. The childminder collects good information from parents about children's care needs and routines. She gets to know children well and meets their care needs and routines well. The childminder supports children to develop good behaviour. For example, she praises children when they show kind and sharing behaviour and promotes their good manners. The childminder supports children to learn about keeping themselves safe. For example, they take part in regular evacuation drills and the childminder uses gentle reminders to teach them important safety rules. Children have daily opportunities for fresh air and exercise, and enjoy nutritious snacks and meals.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are motivated and enthusiastic. They gain confidence to learn and develop key skills that prepare them well for their move to school.
