The childminder implements her policies and procedures to keep children safe. For example, she undertakes risk assessments of her home and minimises any hazards. strengthen the two-way flow of information to encourage parents to share a wider range of information about their children's achievements and learning at home.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed a range of play activities. The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at children's learning records, assessment documents and a selection of policies and procedures, and discussed self-evaluation. The inspector checked evidence of qualifications and suitability of the childminder. The inspector took account of the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder demonstrates a kind and nurturing attitude to caring for children. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of the procedures to follow should she have a concern about a child in her care to keep children safe and protect them from harm. She reflects on the quality of her provision and identifies areas for development. For example, she attends training and takes account of the views of parents. This has a positive impact on children and helps to improve the quality of teaching. For example, since her last inspection the childminder has improved her methods to assess and track children's progress. The childminder communicates regularly with parents about their children's development. For example, the childminder has daily discussions with parents about the activities their children have been undertaking and how they are progressing towards their next steps in learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of how to support children's ongoing development. She obtains information from parents regarding children's individual interests to allow her to plan activities that engage children. The childminder observes and assesses children's learning and identifies their next steps in development. She then uses this information to extend learning through the activities she provides. Children are happy and confident to take part in the learning opportunities on offer and they develop good language skills. For example, as they play investigative games, the childminder uses effective questioning to extend their learning. Children also develop good literacy skills, for example, they read words and identify letters as they play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder teaches children about the importance of being healthy. For example, they talk about which foods are healthy to eat and participate in regular physical exercise. Children learn to have good manners and consider the feelings of others. For example, the childminder teaches them to understand the importance of sharing and turn taking. The childminder encourages children to take well-managed risks and teaches them how to keep themselves safe. For example, children learn about aspects of road safety and participate in emergency evacuations. The childminder provides a nurturing environment where children are very relaxed and happy. Children are confident to choose what they want to play with from the good range of resources the childminder offers.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are enthusiastic and capable learners and obtain the skills they need for the next stage in their learning.
