This provision is good
The childminder provides a stimulating environment that motivates children to play. There are good-quality resources throughout the areas children use, so wherever they are, they make choices that promote their learning effectively. Children are confident learners who enjoy their time with the childminder and progress well. They develop good relationships, behave well and are emotionally secure. They learn to get on with others. The childminder plans a wide range of interesting activities. She monitors children's development effectively, so they continue to progress well. The childminder uses her qualification well to look after children effectively. She continues to attend training, extend her knowledge and implements new ideas to improve outcomes for children. The changes made have helped sustain her good- quality service.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses opportunities to make children aware of how some things have an effect on others, to extend their understanding of the world fully. The childminder does not gain comprehensive information from parents on children's development when they first start, in order to have a complete picture of their starting points from the onset.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and the quality of teaching indoors and outdoors. The inspector talked to the childminder and carried out a joint observation. The inspector sampled documentation, including policies and procedures and the children's development records. The inspector checked safeguarding information and the safety of the premises. The inspector took account of the childminder's self-evaluation, parents' questionnaires and parents' written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a strong understanding of how to protect children from risk of harm. The childminder carries out good risk assessments and successfully takes action to minimise risks. She has good ways to check children's development and to identify where they may need additional support. She ensures that by working in partnerships with others, any gaps in children's development close quickly. The childminder seeks parents' feedback to aid the evaluation of her service. She involves parents well in their children's learning at home; for example, children take home storybooks to share. The childminder has recently moved house and has effective plans to develop her garden, such as to enable children to grow produce. Parents are complimentary about the care and learning the childminder provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes the children regularly and makes useful assessments of their development. She uses children's interests to plan what children need to learn next effectively. Children often lead their play and the childminder provides good support to move their learning forward. They use their imaginations well. The childminder extends children's communication skills and helps children to think about what they do. During stories, children predict what might happen next and explain confidently what the characters are doing. Older children learn about early mathematics and literacy in their play, for example, when playing 'shops'. The childminder encourages children to learn from each other, which builds children's desire to persevere and their self-esteem.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The children settle immediately they arrive at the childminder's home. They are excited to see each other. They confidently select resources and are eager begin to play. The childminder expects good behaviour and praises children for their good manners and for sharing. She has consistent boundaries so children have a good understanding of her expectations. The childminder meets children's physical needs well and helps children to manage their personal needs. Children develop a good understanding of safe practices. The childminder helps them to recognise potential dangers, such as leaving too many toys on the floor. Children decide when they are hungry and make healthy choices. Children clearly love being outside and they know how to dress to keep warm.
p.3
