This provision is good
The childminder provides a welcoming, well-organised environment for children. They freely choose from a good selection of resources and play materials. Children take part in a wide range of enjoyable activities and experiences based on their interests and needs. They make good progress in their learning. The childminder promotes children's emotional and physical well-being effectively. She has warm and caring relationships with them and is sensitive to their individual needs. The childminder works closely with parents and keeps them well informed. For example, she talks to them every day and uses a diary to keep them up to date. The childminder has a positive attitude to continual improvement. She reflects on her practice and is motivated to develop her skills.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always make full use of her assessments of children to monitor their overall progress as closely as possible. Systems for gathering the views of parents as part of the self-evaluation process are not fully developed.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children taking part in activities with the childminder. The inspector had discussions with the childminder about her practice and about children's learning and development. The inspector sampled paperwork, including children's records and policies and procedures. The inspector looked around the areas of the childminder's home used by children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has completed a child protection course and she knows what to do if she has concerns about a child's welfare. She keeps all of the necessary paperwork for childminding. Records are well organised and up to date. The childminder makes good use of links with the local authority and other childminders to keep up to date and get new ideas. She shows a commitment to professional development to build on her skills. For example, she completed a speech and language course which helps her support children's communication development effectively.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gets to know the children well. For example, she gathers detailed information from parents about their children's interests, achievements and needs before they start. She observes children closely and plans activities to build on what they already know and can do. She supports children's language and communication development effectively. For example, she talks to children as they play, listens to them well and encourages them to try new words. She includes children who are learning English as an additional language well. For example, they count together in their home language as well as in English. The childminder demonstrates new skills and encourages children to try things for themselves. For example, children were fascinated with the new play dough tools and became absorbed in shaping and squeezing the dough. The childminder helps children learn about the wider world. For example, she encourages them to share their

own experiences and find out about each other's lives and cultures.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are confident and settled in the childminder's care. She offers them gentle guidance, reassurance and praise and they behave well. The childminder acts as a good role model, encouraging children to treat one another with respect. She supervises children vigilantly and makes careful risk assessments of her home. She helps children learn the skills they need to keep themselves safe. For example, they talk about why they need to sit down to eat and she involves them in regular fire drills. The childminder promotes children's good health effectively. For example, they learn simple good hygiene routines, such as washing their hands before they eat. Children play outside every day in the garden or go to the local park. They benefit from regular exercise, as part of a healthy lifestyle.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress based on their individual starting points. They grow in independence and learn to share and take turns. They are well prepared for their next stage of learning and for school.
