This provision is good

 The childminder evaluates the quality of her provision effectively and makes worthwhile changes to maintain its good quality.  The childminder and the childminding assistants use their qualifications well. They understand how children learn and develop, and ensure that the activities provided interest children and are well suited to the children's differing abilities.  Children make good progress. They enjoy their time with the childminder. They have good relationships with all the adults and are cared for well. Children behave very well. They become confident and independent learners.  The childminder and her assistants provide support to children in a thoughtful manner, enabling children to grow and flourish as individuals.  All adults recognise when children require additional support and provide it effectively. They work well with other professionals to improve the service and the children's

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not track children's progress sufficiently regularly. This does not allow the childminder to assess children's learning and development as accurately as possible.  The childminder does not make full use of all the available space to meet the needs of children who prefer to learn outdoors.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide rich experiences for children across the learning environments  increase the frequency of checks on children's progress.

Inspection activities

 The inspector viewed areas of the home used for childminding.  The inspector sampled some policies and other documentation, including evidence of the childminder's and the assistants' suitability to work with children, and their qualifications.  The inspector discussed the requirements with the childminder.  The inspector discussed how the childminder evaluates her provision and her plans for improvement.  The inspector observed how the childminder and the assistants engage in children's play activities.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistants understand their roles well in keeping children safe. They carry out thorough risk assessments so that children use safe environments. The childminder has addressed previous recommendations and has improved her observations of children. Observations and planning of children's learning are now effective and lead to stimulating experiences for children. The supervision and training for staff is effective; for example, assistants are encouraged to gain qualifications. The childminder seeks the views of others when evaluating her practice; she seeks and acts on advice from other professionals. This helps her to keep improving her service.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder and her assistants use effective systems to check children's progress. The childminder uses the information from her observations to plan what the children need to learn next effectively. The childminder obtains a clear overview of information from parents when children first start from which to assess their progress. The good teaching methods used by the childminder and the assistants effectively promote children's learning. Children progress well in developing their speech, social and physical skills. For example, they learn new words, including 'rectangle', learn to play with others and to hold pencils.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children settle very well into this warm and nurturing environment. The adults promote children's independence effectively through a variety of practical ways. For example, children learn to use cutlery. The adults question children well and children are encouraged to think through their ideas. The childminder has a friendly approach, which helps children build trusting relationships. Through praise and encouragement, the childminder and her assistants build children's self-esteem, so children have confidence to try new things. Children learn to manage their personal needs. They get on with other children and learn about their special celebrations.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children progress well. Children have positive attitudes to trying new experiences and gain independence. Children are well prepared for the next stages in their learning. For example, they begin to learn about letters, have a go at writing and learn early mathematical language.
