This has a positive impact on the quality of care and education she provides.  The childminder has dedicated a large amount of her home to her childminding provision. The environment is bright, welcoming and well laid out. Children are confident to explore and know exactly what is available for them to play with.  The childminder is kind, caring and very calm. Children form close bonds with her from the start. She quickly gets to know them and always ensures their care needs are well met. This helps children to feel safe and secure.  Children make good progress. The quality of teaching is strong and the childminder has a good understanding of how to promote young children's learning and development.  Partnerships with parents, other providers and professionals are excellent. Information

is shared in great detail. This helps to promote strong continuity in children's care and learning between the different settings they attend.  The childminder is positive and encouraging. She praises children's efforts and always celebrates their achievements. This helps them to feel valued.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Occasional opportunities are missed to promote children's physical development at the highest level. These specifically refer to moving in different ways and handling tools and equipment.  The childminder's evaluation is not yet well focused enough, in order to consider ways to raise the overall standard of the setting to outstanding.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder accesses regular safeguarding training. She ensures that she is knowledgeable about current child protection issues and safeguarding legislation. The childminder is passionate about ensuring children are safe and secure in her care. The environment is risk assessed and all possible hazards to children are minimised. She reports that she would never monitor a safeguarding concern for a long period of time but would always seek advice and support from the relevant authorities. This helps to protect children from harm. The childminder evaluates the provision. She recognises the key strengths and some of the weaknesses within her practice. The childminder sets some targets for the future as she wishes to keep up to date and maintain the standards of the provision. The childminder aims to provide the best possible outcomes for children in the future.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good overview of children's progress and the educational programme she provides. She makes precise assessments of children's learning and uses this to identify what they need to achieve next. The childminder plans and provides a range of activities and experiences that helps to promote children's individual learning. For example, babies benefit from plenty of opportunities to play with a variety of interesting toys and equipment that they can push, pull and roll. The childminder encourages them to spend time exploring and working out how they can use them. This helps to develop their concentration skills and understanding of the wider world. Older children enjoy playing games and completing puzzles. The childminder encourages them to talk through their ideas, count beyond five and help her to sort objects by shape and colour. This helps to promote their language and mathematical skills. Children demonstrate great interest in

exploring their physical skills. However, some opportunities to promote these skills at the highest level are missed.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children's physical well-being is promoted well. The childminder teaches children about keeping themselves healthy and safe. She offers children the nutritional snacks and meals that come from home. She talks to them about the importance of eating well. She also talks to them about safety within the setting and uses examples to demonstrate why certain rules are in place. Children's emotional well-being is also promoted well. The childminder has clear behaviour boundaries and expectations within her home. She begins to promote these from the earliest age. Children learn to care for one another, respect the resources available and listen to the childminder.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress, including those who benefit from funded education. Children's confidence and independence develop particularly well. They swiftly learn to make their own choices, express themselves clearly and manage their care needs. Children acquire all the basic skills they need to move on to school.
