The inspector took account of parents' views. The inspector spoke with the childminder about his understanding of safeguarding, child protection and first aid. The inspector sampled documentation, including children's records and the childminder's policies.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder fully understands the importance of this aspect of his role and regularly attends additional training to extend his knowledge where possible. He understands his responsibility to safeguard children and has a detailed knowledge of the steps to take if concerned about a child's welfare. The childminder has refined the role he plays in reviewing the provision as a whole and in assessing children's progress. He and his co-provider form a very effective partnership. They worked together to review their outdoor provision to ensure they make the very best use of this area to extend children's learning. The childminder has successfully built links with a wide variety of other professions. He is extremely well-placed to seek advice and support for individual children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder knows the children extremely well. He uses this knowledge to plan, with his co-provider, a wide range of interesting activities and outings that fully capture children's interest. However, he plans fewer activities to support children's creative skills and development. Children remain very excited to learn. In addition, the childminder fully understands the rich learning that can come from children exploring and playing independently in different ways. Children are excited to listen to stories and develop their literacy skills and they see the childminder's love of books and delight in reading. They listen carefully as he points out features of the natural world and take great pride in helping grow vegetables.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder meets children's care needs extremely well. He makes mealtimes fun and children enthusiastically eat the home-cooked food, keen to be a 'dinner winner' and identify the different vegetables on their plates. He organises cosy areas for children to rest and sleep, offering soothing words to help children settle. Children see how much he enjoys being outdoors and respond positively to his suggestion to 'breathe in the fresh air'. They develop an excellent understanding of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. The childminder promotes children's emotional well-being equally as well. He carefully teaches children to put on their coats and tie their shoelaces. Even very young children are able to find their own outdoor clothes in preparation for going outside. His home is full of happy and settled children.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children make excellent progress in all areas of their learning. They are extremely well prepared for their future learning, including their move to school.
