This provision is inadequate
The childminder has failed to inform Ofsted of all changes that have occurred to the people living or working on the premises. Not all persons living on the premises, and working directly with the children, including those being left unsupervised with the children have been suitably vetted. The childminder's safeguarding knowledge is weak. She lacks a clear understanding of how some child protection issues impact on her practice. The childminder does not always obtain written permission from parents prior to giving medication to their children. Partnership working does not always help to promote the best continuity in children's care and education between the different settings they attend. The childminder's reviewing and monitoring of her setting is not effective in ensuring that all the legal requirements are met.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder builds on the skills that children learn at school. She encourages children to manage their own care needs and play well with others. Children are supported to continue to make good progress. The environment is welcoming and stimulating. Children are confident and very independent within the setting. They report that they enjoy attending and are happy in the childminder's care.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and the Childcare Register the provider must:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed teaching practice. The inspector viewed the areas used for childminding and held discussions with the childminder. The inspector looked at the documents available, including policies and procedures. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability and qualifications of the childminder. The inspector discussed with the childminder her methods for self-evaluation. The inspector sought children's and parents' views from discussions and written comments available.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is inadequate
The arrangements for safeguarding are ineffective. The childminder has failed to keep Ofsted up to date of all the changes that have occurred in her living and working situation. She reports that she informed Ofsted when all her adult children moved out. However, she admits she has failed to notify that her adult daughter has recently moved back in following an extensive period of time living elsewhere. Furthermore, the childminder is using her adult daughter in the role of voluntary assistant and she is working directly with the children. Therefore, Ofsted have been unable to ensure suitable vetting checks have been carried out. The childminder's daughter is occasionally left in the house alone with the children while the childminder spends time in the playhouse at the top of the garden. The children left in the house cannot be seen or heard by the childminder during these times. Consequently, people whose suitability has not been thoroughly vetted are having
p.3
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is inadequate
The childminder has kept her own safeguarding training up to date. However, she does not know what to do if an allegation is made against anyone living or working on the premises. Also, she does not have a clear understanding of more recent safeguarding legislation about concerns that may occur at home or elsewhere. She fails to see the impact of some child protection issues on her practice. Therefore, the childminder does not clearly understand how to keep children safe and protect them from harm. The childminder knows that it is her responsibility to meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She is well qualified. However, self-evaluation is weak. The childminder feels that she has maintained the high standards since the last inspection. Therefore, she does not identify the weaknesses in practice and has failed to prevent breaches in requirements occurring.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is knowledgeable about how young children learn. She uses what she knows about children's interests and development to help them to participate in the routines and activities available. For example, children really enjoy building with different types of construction materials. They concentrate for long periods of time and are keen to develop their models. The childminder helps them to read and follow the instruction manual. She talks to them and encourages them to express themselves and share their ideas. This helps to get them thinking critically and expands their communication and language skills. The childminder is very welcoming and makes time for all children to join in and take part with what is going on. Children ask questions and the childminder gives them explanations to expand their learning. They explore and have discussions about different events, a variety of topics and other cultures. This helps to develop their

understanding of the wider world. Children continue to develop the key skills they need to complement their learning at school and in the future. Partnerships with parents and the school that children attend are established, however, information about children's care and education is not always shared in the greatest detail to promote the best continuity.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate
The childminder effectively supports children's emotional well-being in many ways. She is kind, caring and friendly. Children form positive attachments with her and feel safe and secure in her care. However, these feelings of safety and security are somewhat misguided due to weaknesses within the childminder's safeguarding practice. Children's behaviour is managed well. Children are always busily engaged in activities and demonstrate a clear understanding of the expectations of the setting. They enjoy helping and their achievements are celebrated. Children's good health is not consistently well promoted. The childminder does not always obtain written permission from parents to give medication to their children. While she always seeks consent verbally, she does not ensure this is written down or recorded as is required. Children's physical well-being is promoted adequately in other ways. The childminder has a 5 star food hygiene rating for her setting

and prepares a wide variety of nutritious meals. She talks to the children and their parents about the importance of eating well. She also includes children in making decisions about the meals she provides.
