This provision is good
Children have good levels of confidence and self-esteem. Staff promote independence well. Children make choices in their play; for example, staying indoors or going outdoors, and choosing the resources and materials they need for their play. The management team uses effective self-evaluation to help them continually make improvements to their practice to benefit children. The management team has fully addressed the actions and recommendations from the previous inspection. They have improved opportunities for children to be independent and made changes outdoors. Committee members have a secure understanding of their responsibilities, ensuring they comply with all requirements. Children make good progress from their starting points when they first attend. They experience a broad range of activities that are well suited to their interests. The management team and staff have effective partnerships with parents, other

providers and professionals. They work closely together to support children with additional needs to help them achieve well in their learning and development.

It is not yet outstanding because:
Staff do not consistently plan for younger children's next steps in their development to ensure they promote their learning as much as possible. Although children learn about some celebrations others enjoy, staff do not fully extend opportunities for them to embrace a wide range of different cultures and languages.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children and staff, indoors and outdoors. The inspector took into account the views of parents spoken to during the inspection. The inspector spoke to representatives of the committee, staff and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the manager. The inspector viewed a sample of documents, including staff and children's records, accident records and the pre-school's self-evaluation documentation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
All staff have a good understanding of safeguarding. They are clear about what to do if they have any concerns to keep children safe from harm. Safeguarding is effective. The management team monitors the quality of staff's practice and there are clear arrangements to check that staff remain suitable to work with children. Staff use training well, such as on outdoor play, to help them extend children's experiences and understanding of risks and safe play. The manager monitors and tracks children's learning and progress successfully, addressing any gaps in their learning. For example, recent tracking identified gaps in mathematics. This led the manager and staff to take effective steps to ensure they introduced mathematics throughout children's play and routine activities; for example, counting the number of children present, comparing sizes and discussing shapes. This action helped them narrow the gap in children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Overall, staff have a good understanding of their key children's development and of how to move them forward to the next stage of learning. They develop activities to promote children's development around their interests. For example, they provide hammers and drills in the role play area to help children develop their coordination and physical skills. Staff encourage children's listening skills well. For instance, they encourage them to follow instructions well and bang sticks to make loud and quiet sounds. Staff adapt group activities so even the youngest children remain focused and contribute to the discussion. Effective links with other professionals ensure children receive the support they need to help them succeed.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children's behaviour is good. Staff are positive role models and give praise when children do a kind deed. They nurture children's self-esteem and confidence well. For example, the 'special helper' of the day blossoms and their confidence grows, such as when preparing snacks. Children develop good independence skills as staff provide appropriate support. For example, children follow their example and zip up their outdoor clothes to keep warm. Children show strong cooperation skills as they work together, such as to find items beginning with a specific letter sound. They eagerly use the outdoor area for fresh air and exercise, as well as a wide variety of other learning experiences. Staff promote children's physical and emotional well-being effectively.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and development. They are confident communicators and concentrate for significant periods at activities. Skills such as these help children to prepare well for the move on to school.
