understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage and to provide effective provision for children. She has a clear vision of her own professional goals.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always give children enough time to think about how they are going to respond to questions.  The childminder does not ensure that all resources are in operational order, which prevents children from experimenting with them to discover how they work, to support fully children's growing understanding of the world around them.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 give children time to respond to questions to encourage them to think for themselves  strengthen opportunities for children to use and investigate resources that help them learn how things work.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the childminder's interaction with children throughout the inspection.  The inspector sampled children's observation, planning and assessment documents, and looked at the registration records.  The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's suitability to work with children, and sampled her policies and procedures.  The inspector held conversations with the childminder and children during the inspection.  The childminder and inspector jointly discussed an observation of children's play.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has worked hard to improve her service since her previous inspection. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder attends required training to keep her safeguarding knowledge up to date. She has a clear understanding of her responsibility to act on any child protection concerns and how to provide safe premises to help her keep children safe from harm. The childminder has developed effective systems of observation and assessment. She establishes children's starting points, monitors children's progress and identifies any gaps in their learning and development effectively. She regularly shares children's progress with parents and considers their views to plan children's future learning effectively.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder uses her observations of children well to plan experiences that match their learning needs. The range of activities and the childminder's interaction positively engage children. Older children receive good support to maintain continuity in their learning. For example, the childminder plans many activities that mirror what they do in other settings. Children learn how to operate small tools during creative activities, which helps children gain control of their hands in preparation for early writing. The childminder engages children in interesting conversations, and all children, including those who are learning English as an additional language, develop good communication and language skills. Children ably recall popular stories they listened to with the childminder, showing their interest in books. Children benefit from regular trips out of their community, such as to visit museums and the library.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children form strong bonds with the childminder and they build positive relationships with others. Moreover, the childminder ensures that children learn about the different backgrounds of others and helps children's early understanding of tolerance. The childminder manages children's behaviour very well. She is caring and polite, and a good role model to children. Children behave well; they play harmoniously together and follow rules. The childminder implements good care routines and helps children learn about the importance of healthy lifestyles effectively, for example, through regular physical exercise and fresh air. Children develop their confidence and self-esteem.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points and develop skills for their future learning. Children develop good levels of personal independence. They make choices independently, learn to listen and enjoy learning.
