This provision is good

 The childminder uses her childcare knowledge and experience well to benefit the children's experiences. Her robust observation, assessment and planning procedures help her support children to make good progress from their starting points.  Children show interest in their surroundings and readily take part in the different activities. The playroom is well equipped with a good variety of resources to promote children's interests and learning and development.  The childminder includes the views of parents and her co-childminders in the thorough self-evaluation procedure. This provides clear identification of strengths and ideas for further improvement.  Systems to share information with other providers who share the care of children are effective. The childminder works well with them to promote continuity of care and learning for children and prepares children well for school.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not extend opportunities for children to use their home language as they play and learn.  The childminder has varying degrees of success in encouraging parents to share information about their children's achievements at home, so their contributions add to the planning process for children's continued learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide more opportunities for children to use their home language  encourage all parents to consistently share what their children learn at home, to contribute more effectively to the planning process.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder and co-childminders working with the children.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder.  The inspector looked at a sample of children's records of development.  The inspector read the self-evaluation form and took account of feedback from parents.  The inspector checked required documentation and safety of the premises.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Since registration, the childminder has improved her skills and taken effective steps to increase the learning opportunities for children. For example, she provides more writing materials for children to use in role play to extend their literacy and physical development. The childminder has provided a number line, which successfully encourages children to talk about and recognise numbers. The childminder has improved the storage of children's personal belongings to make better use of space. Plans for further development include improvements to the garden to increase outdoor play opportunities for children. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder makes good use of relevant agencies to maintain up-to-date knowledge about the child protection procedures. She is clear about procedures to follow should she have any concerns.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder interacts well with children and effectively responds to their interests. For example, following a discussion about rainbows, the childminder provides hanging crystals at the window. Children express delight and curiosity as they notice the reflection of colours in the sunshine. Younger children are inquisitive and like to watch the older children. The childminder encourages children to learn from one another and to cooperate in play. She plays games with children that help them to practise sounds and learn the names of animals. To increase children's attention and involvement at story time, the childminder provides additional resources, such as finger puppets and relevant toys that successfully engage children's understanding of story lines. The childminder supports children's good progress well by monitoring their achievements and addressing any gaps in their learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder works well with her co-childminders to provide a safe, secure and welcoming environment. Children settle well and form warm relationships, feeling very much at home. The childminder supports children positively to have good manners, share and get along with others. Children benefit from regular outings in the local community, for instance, they enjoy walks to the shops and trips to the park. The childminder teaches children about road safety as they use the crossing and hold hands. She provides good support and close supervision to keep them safe. The childminder effectively meets the individual needs of children in her care.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children enjoy their learning and thoroughly enjoy their time in the childminder's home. They are polite and make friendships, developing secure social skills for moving on to school.
