This provision is good
The childminder creates a safe environment for children. She implements policies and safe practices effectively to promote children's well-being and welfare. The childminder promotes children's communication and language well. For example, she talks to children about previous experiences, such as holidays and special events. The childminder has built strong relationships with parents and has a good two-way flow of communication with them to promote continuity for children. Parents comment positively on the service that they receive from the childminder. The childminder promotes children's awareness of different cultures and diversity well. The childminder is a positive role model for children's behaviour. For example, she talks to children in a respectful and gentle manner. Children respond to this and behave very well.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder is sensitive to children's individual needs, she does not always make the best use of the information gained from tracking children's progress to inform future planning, to ensure children make the best progress possible. The childminder has not fully developed her self-evaluation process to help identify and target further areas for improvement.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and the children during the inspection. The inspector toured the premises and checked the childminder's health and safety arrangements. The inspector discussed and sampled policies and procedures, including systems for safeguarding children. A range of statutory documents was also examined. The inspector read parents' written views and feedback and took them into account.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues and knows the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child. She carries out safety checks and makes changes to her environment to help keep children safe. She is vigilant at supervising children and ensures that she knows their whereabouts. The childminder observes children to monitor their learning. She is quick to address some identified gaps, such as speech delays, working with parents and other professionals to support children. She works with other settings children attend to promote consistency in their learning and development. The childminder keeps her knowledge and skills up to date to benefit children, for example, through sharing good practice ideas with other childminders and researching information online.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder's teaching is consistently good. She skilfully promotes children's thinking skills, such as giving them time to think and respond to questions. For example, she asks children to think of words that begin with letters that are significant to them. Children respond well and say, 'L for lollipop', and 'W for wheel.' The childminder knows children's interests and ensures resources to match these are easily accessible. For example, children showed interest in playing with digital toys, developing their early literacy and mathematical skills. The childminder and children excitedly worked together to match letters to their sounds, and played counting games. Children remained enthusiastic and engaged throughout the activity. The childminder promotes children's early writing skills well. For example, she provides lots of writing tools, which children use with delight. Children learn to hold pencils correctly and to write their own names, providing them with

useful skills for their future learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and relaxed with the childminder. She encourages children to be independent and to practise good hygiene routines. For example, children confidently wash their hands after toileting to keep themselves healthy. The childminder promotes good health, for example, by taking children regularly to local parks for exercise and fresh air. The childminder praises children for their efforts and motivates them to try things. For example, the childminder says, 'I know you can do it', and 'Well done.' Children respond positively to such high-quality praise and encouragement. The childminder teaches children to share and take turns, which helps children learn to respect others.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Overall, children make good progress in their learning from their starting points. They gain essential skills that help prepare them for their future learning, such as school.
