Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at children's assessment records, planning documentation, records of training, a selection of policies and procedures and the childminder's self- evaluation. The inspector undertook a joint observation with the childminder and discussed the outcome. The inspector considered the views of parents provided through written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder uses her comprehensive policies and procedures to effectively support her strong practice, and help keep children safe and secure. She maintains her strong professional knowledge by attending regular and relevant training. She enthusiastically involves children and seeks the views of parents in her programme of improvements. For example, the childminder plans to enhance the outdoor provision with the help of children, to further enrich learning opportunities. The childminder is registered to work with an assistant. The assistant works very occasionally, usually to ensure an excellent level of safety on outings, during school holidays. The childminder demonstrates how she provides excellent support and supervision for her assistant.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder has expert teaching skills which are underpinned by her qualifications, substantial experience and thorough knowledge of child development. She provides each child with an extremely well judged level of challenge in both adult and child-led play and learning. The childminder demonstrates an excellent awareness of the different ways in which children learn most effectively. The ways in which the childminder supports children's imagination, communication and language skills are exemplary. She has a deep understanding of how children's emotional and social development can impact on their attitudes towards learning. She works tirelessly to motivate children and to develop their concentration, high self-esteem and an enthusiasm towards their learning. This prepares them with the essential key skills they need for moving to nursery and school.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder has developed highly effective strategies to support children's understanding of the different aspects which contribute towards a healthy lifestyle. Parents comment that they receive excellent support from the childminder in aspects of care and development. For example, they value the additional support the childminder has given them in developing a consistent approach towards managing behaviour. All the children demonstrate they have a thorough understanding and comply with the high level of behaviour which the childminder expects from them. The childminder shows exemplary practice in how she supports children to develop the key skills which prepare them to become independent. She uses highly effective strategies to enable children to begin to assess and manage risks in ways which are appropriate for their age and stage of development.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
The childminder uses highly effective and accurate ways to monitor and track the progress of each child. All children make excellent progress in their learning and development from their unique and individual starting points.
