This provision is good
Children have a very secure relationship with the childminder. They are extremely settled and their emotional needs are supported exceedingly well by her very attentive, sympathetic care. Children make good progress, particularly in the area of communication and language. The well-qualified childminder continually reflects on her practice and makes changes to the provision for the benefit of children. For example, she uses children's feedback to develop the planning of the play programme. The childminder monitors children's progress successfully and works closely with parents to close any identified gaps in learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The experiences and play activities on offer do not always encourage the youngest children to explore their surroundings and familiar play resources independently. Daily communication with parents is not always focused on the promotion of exceptional outcomes for children.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
provide the youngest children with more challenging opportunities to explore their surroundings and familiar play resources independently ensure partnerships with parents promote even better outcomes for children's learning.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed children playing in the home and in the garden and the childminder's interactions with children. The inspector undertook a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder about the children and looked at their learning records. The inspector sampled some safeguarding and leadership documentation. The inspector looked at written feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder knows the child protection procedures to follow if she is worried about a child's welfare. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has high expectations of what children can achieve. She has a realistic view of the setting and shows a positive drive towards improvement. For example, after training on how to promote children's talking skills she changed her interaction slightly to support children better. The childminder works closely with her co-childminder to ensure successful outcomes for children. Children benefit from the successful partnership between the childminder and parents, which allows key information to be shared.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Young children show great enjoyment and stay focused and engaged for a long time absorbed in purposeful activities led by adults. The childminder provides children with clear support. She has a secure knowledge of how to promote their learning in all areas. The childminder observes children, assesses them well and consistently tailors her interaction to build on what the children know and can do. For example, children use paints to make marks with their fingers and brushes; they laugh and repeat new words they have learnt. The childminder skilfully develops children's understanding and vocabulary by her clear diction and the way she sings favourite rhymes.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder meets children's care, health and dietary needs exceptionally well. Children are exceptionally well looked after and are very happy. They learn where food comes from and how to lead a healthy lifestyle. For example, they tuck into a hot, home- cooked, nutritious lunch, which is made from vegetables from the garden. Children are supervised very well. They feel very safe and secure and sleep well after lunchtime. Children enjoy developing their physical skills in challenging outdoor activities. The oldest children behave extremely well. They are kind, eager to develop independent skills and show great confidence from a very young age.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning. They have good attitudes to learning and make good progress from their starting points.
