 The childminder is committed to improving her practice and involves parents and children in the review process. She values their input and uses their views to help her maintain continuous improvement.  The childminder keeps all documentation in a very organised manner and uses it effectively to support all aspects of her practice.  The childminder provides a safe and welcoming environment and supervises children closely to promote their welfare.  The childminder provides a wide range of good quality resources which children use to explore ideas and learn new skills.  The childminder encourages children to treat each other with respect and expects them to behave well. Children have a good understanding of rules and boundaries and follow these happily. They show care and concern for each other and play amicably together.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder occasionally misses opportunities to promote children's independence skills even further.  On occasions, the play initiated by children themselves is interrupted due to the timing of planned activities and mealtimes.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has completed recent safeguarding training to ensure she is informed of changes to legislation and procedures. She knows what to do should she have concerns about a child's well-being. Rigorous ongoing risk assessment takes place to help maintain the safety of children at all times. The childminder is committed to her own professional development. She is currently studying for a childcare qualification and uses her learning from this to improve her childminding provision. Parents report that children are keen to attend. Daily conversations with parents and school staff help to provide continuity of care and support children's progress.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children enjoy their time with the childminder, who provides varied and interesting activities that capture children's interest. Planning is adapted if children express a particular interest in something or if they have enjoyed learning something at school. The childminder encourages children to share experiences about their school day with herself and the other children. This contributes towards children developing good social skills and confidence in their communication and language skills. The childminder interacts well with children. She spends time talking with them and shows a real interest in each individual child. The childminder is on hand to join in with activities, but also allows children to initiate their own play. Children play outdoors when time allows and enjoy using a range of equipment which helps to promote their physical development. During school holidays they very much enjoy trips and outings, including playing on the beach and walks in the

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is kind and caring, and children form secure emotional attachments and close relationships with her. She values children and makes each one feel special. For example, on their birthday children choose a birthday cake for a treat. Children say they enjoy going to the childminder's and are clearly comfortable and relaxed while with her. They are confident and self-assured and keen to be part of the inspection process. Children have an increasing understanding of how to keep themselves healthy. Children know to wash their hands before mealtimes and after using the toilet. The childminder talks to them about how to do this properly and provides pictorial prompts as a reminder. She reminds children about how to keep themselves safe. Children talk confidently about how they stop, look and listen before crossing the road and know they must stay with the childminder.
