Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and her interactions with children, inside and outside. The inspector looked at a sample of documentation, including children's learning journals. The inspector took the written views of parents into account. The inspector conducted a leadership and management discussion with the childminder. The inspector held a joint observation with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder fully understands child protection issues and procedures. She is very clear about her responsibilities and of how to proceed in the event of any concerns about children's welfare. The childminder carefully tailors training to develop her expertise to benefit children, including their differing needs. For example, she has learnt about supporting children who are learning English as an additional language and this has an excellent impact on children's experiences. The childminder uses her qualifications and experience to drive improvement and this is highly effective. The childminder confidently and continually extends and promotes the development of her setting.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
Children are extremely excited and enthusiastic about getting involved in a superb range of high-quality learning experiences. For example, children helped to make a cornflour and water mix. The childminder dispensed paint into handwash bottles and children eagerly squirted the colours into the mixture. The childminder encouraged them to explore and make predictions, developing their understanding of the world. The childminder tracks children's progress and makes accurate observations of children's achievements. She adapts her teaching to focus on each child's individual needs. This has an extremely positive impact on all children's development, including those with additional needs. Occasionally, the childminder misses some opportunities to involve children further during story time to extend their already excellent early literacy skills. Nevertheless, she uses her expertise extremely well to extend children's concepts and skills as they play. For example,

children were enthralled by the light display in a sensory den and the childminder encouraged children to explore and find out where the light came from.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Children are extremely settled and secure as they play. They use excellent social skills and consistently operate at above typical levels for their age. They treat each other with consideration and kindness, and enjoy sharing their experiences and feelings. For example, children are keen to look at tropical fish together, spontaneously celebrating their enjoyment with a hug. Children develop important skills for their move on to pre- school and school. They consistently play with autonomy, interest and independence. Children get lots of fresh air and exercise regardless of the weather. They enjoy a very well-planned outdoor area, which offers excellent activities across all areas of learning.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children make excellent progress and are extremely well prepared for school. They relish the challenges on offer, developing very positive attitudes towards learning.
