This provision is good
Since the last inspection, the childminder has worked closely with local authority consultants to implement an improvement plan. She continues to use ongoing reflection and training to support evaluation processes and drive continual improvement. Teaching is good. The childminder monitors children's progress closely, in order to plan precisely for their individual needs. Children enjoy a broad range of activities, supporting them to make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder promotes children's language and communication skills well. She introduces key words and phrases and repeats words back to them, which help to extend their vocabulary. Children are happy and self-assured. The childminder provides extensive praise and encouragement, to help children recognise their achievements and boost their self- confidence. Children are very independent. They eagerly complete age-appropriate tasks that help

them to acquire self-help skills, in readiness for school. For example, children prepare and serve their own snack. The childminder successfully works in partnership with parents, to promote a shared approach to children's care and learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder misses opportunities to enhance children's mathematical skills. The childminder does not yet provide the best possible opportunities for children to learn about different people, customs and cultures.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector toured the areas of the home used for childminding purposes. The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other adults in the household, children's development records and a sample of policies and procedures. The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation form and plans for improvement. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector considered the views of parents, provided through written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder provides good quality learning experiences for children in a welcoming and homely environment. She uses a well-established programme of professional development to continually improve her knowledge, understanding and practice. For example, the childminder has completed training to help her to understand more about children's play. She liaises with other professionals, to seek advice and share ideas. This helps to raise teaching standards and improve outcomes for children. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has completed child protection training and knows how to refer concerns to the relevant authorities. She regularly assesses the environment, ensuring that it is hazard free and safe for children's use. The childminder works closely with local feeder schools, to exchange information and to promote consistency in children's care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder completes regular observations and assessments. She plans challenging activities that stimulate and engage children. For example, children excitedly join in singing sessions and the childminder uses puppets to capture their interest. They demonstrate a strong exploratory impulse and eagerly explore malleable materials, using their senses. The childminder extends this activity well and introduces key words and descriptive language, helping to accelerate children's developing vocabulary. She skilfully encourages children to solve problems and guides them, without doing things for them. Children handle a wide range of tools and equipment safely. This helps to promote their physical skills. Parents provide information about what children can already do, to support the identification of starting points. Additionally, the childminder gathers information from them, about children's learning at home, and uses it to complement her good teaching.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are clearly happy in the childminder's care and enjoy spending time with her. They show high levels of confidence as they select their own resources and make decisions about their play. Children play cooperatively together and learn how to take turns and share resources. They enjoy regular visits to local playgroups. These provide opportunities for them to develop friendships with other children in the community. The childminder promotes good hygiene practices, through effective daily routines. She provides nutritious meals and snacks that help to support healthy eating practices. Children are physically active and benefit from opportunities to play outdoors on a daily basis. These contribute towards promoting healthy lifestyles.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are motivated and eager to explore and learn. They make good progress from their starting points and develop key skills in preparation for future learning and later moves to school.
