This provision is good
Children feel secure and are eager to learn. The childminder is warm and sensitive, and promotes well-being effectively. Children are confident and happy. Children have good spaces to play, both indoors and outside. They enjoy a variety of visits to the local area and groups. They learn how to behave in different situations, preparing them well for the next stages in their learning and their eventual move to school. The childminder monitors children's progress well. She effectively plans a wide range of opportunities and experiences across all areas of learning to help them make good progress. The childminder keeps her knowledge and skills up to date. She attends a variety of training courses that help to improve her teaching skills, such as promoting early writing skills in the outdoor area.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide a broad range of opportunities for children to learn about similarities and differences between themselves and others, and among families, communities and traditions to deepen their understanding of diversity. The childminder has not fully developed a two-way flow of information between her and other settings children attend in order to provide better consistency in their learning and development.

Inspection activities
The inspector held discussions with the childminder, about how she manages her practice and organises activities for children, at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including policies and procedures, children's development journals and records, and the childminder's qualification certificates. The inspector observed children playing and interacting with the childminder. The inspector toured parts of the childminder's home used for childminding purposes.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder understands her responsibilities and meets the requirements. She is dedicated to her profession and seeks to make ongoing improvements to her practice. For example, she has increased the range of training courses she attends, which helps to keep her skills up to date. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder confidently identifies signs that may indicate children's welfare is at risk. She understands the correct procedures to follow if she has child protection concerns. The childminder forms positive working relationships with parents. They effectively work together to support children through various development stages, such as toilet training.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder understands how children play. She encourages them to explore the resources she has prepared and patiently sits close by. The childminder chooses her moments carefully to help children move on in their learning. For example, as children explore shapes, she allows them to explore their textures before showing them how they fit inside one another. Children confidently move around her home. She places resources where children can easily reach them, encouraging children's interests and encouraging new ones. Children develop a keen interest in books. They build very early reading skills as they point and attempt to say words of pictures they recognise. The childminder promotes children's confidence and enthusiasm to try tasks that are more challenging.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and settled. The childminder is sensitive to their needs. She provides additional reassurance when they need it, such as when they first wake from sleeping. Children are emotionally secure. They develop good levels of confidence as they explore the childminder's home and the available resources. The childminder promotes children's increasing physical skills and provides children with daily opportunities to explore the outdoor area. Children play either in the garden or at different places of interest, such as the park, enjoying fresh air and regular exercise. Children form good social skills. For example, they enjoy conversations during mealtimes and make friends at local playgroups.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in relation to their starting points and the childminder helps them to prepare well for their next stages in learning and the move to school.
