The childminder has good teaching skills. She effectively extends and promotes children's learning as they play. The childminder systematically and competently observes and assesses children's learning. She plans and provides activities which help children achieve well and build on their skills. Children make good progress from their starting points. Children develop a good awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyles. They enjoy plenty of exercise and healthy foods. The childminder is reflective and keen to improve. She evaluates her practice competently and identifies areas for development that are tailored to improve children's learning experiences.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always provide children with opportunities to make their own choices from a wide range of resources to fully develop their independent play skills. Occasionally, the childminder does not enable children to extend their creative and imaginative skills, particularly during planned art activities.

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good awareness of her role in protecting children from harm and is fully aware of the procedures to follow to report child protection concerns. The childminder has a good understanding of how to maintain a safe and secure environment for children. She adapts her safety measures successfully to meet children's individual needs, enabling them to move around the setting safely and independently. The childminder continues to develop her knowledge and skills to benefit children's learning and well-being. For example, recent behaviour management training has increased her skills in helping children learn to manage their feelings in an appropriate way.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gets to know children well. She works closely with parents and keeps them well informed about children's progress. Information given by parents and other early years settings is used effectively, such as to inform the childminder's planning of activities. Children eagerly join in with activities and have fun. They develop good communication skills, for example, when the childminder asks questions and encourages them to respond. Children develop a love of books. They increase their imagination skills well, for example, as they act out parts of the story with the childminder's support. Children enjoy using their strong physical skills, for example, when they pretend to do a jungle dance.
p.3

The childminder promotes their self-esteem effectively, for example, when she praises and encourages them. Children learn to share and respect others. They develop good levels of independence and a strong understanding of how to stay safe. Children learn good personal hygiene practices that help keep them in good health.
p.3
