This provision is good
The childminder has exceptionally warm and responsive relationships with the children and meets their personal and emotional needs extremely well. The childminder uses her detailed observations of the children to plan a broad range of interesting and challenging experiences, which children enjoy and which meet their individual needs effectively. The childminder evaluates her practice and provision well, identifying areas for her professional development. She actively seeks, and acts on, the views of parents and children as part of this process. The childminder works in close partnerships with parents. She keeps parents informed about their children's day and progress. She shares valuable information with them about how they can support their children's learning at home. The childminder monitors children's progress effectively, so that any gaps in children's learning are quickly identified and addressed. All children make good progress.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder's systems for sharing information with other early years settings that children attend are not fully effective. The outside learning environment is not as inviting to the children as inside. The childminder does not provide many opportunities outside for the children to become familiar with and use numbers, letters and words to support their learning further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

work more closely with other early years providers to ensure consistency in children's care and learning make the most of opportunities for children to become familiar with and use written letters and numbers in the outdoor environment.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality teaching and the impact on children's learning. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's records, planning and self-evaluation. The inspector spoke to the children and the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector took into account the views of parents from written comments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder remains vigilant and provides a safe and secure environment for children to play. She has a good understanding of child protection issues and is able to identify the types of behaviour that may be a cause for concern. She is clear on the reporting procedure to follow if she has a concern about a child's welfare. The childminder is well qualified and works hard to maintain her professional development. She attends regular training to further her knowledge and promote outcomes for children. For example, through training, she has developed storytelling to be more interactive and further promote children's language. Parents are extremely happy. They comment that the childminder goes beyond expected levels of communication and they say how disappointed their children are when it is not their day to be with the childminder.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a very good knowledge of how children learn and develop. She skilfully uses good questioning techniques to encourage children to think and explore their own ideas. For example, she asks them what materials they could use when they want to make a swimming pool for the toy dogs. Children begin to use words such as 'half' and 'quarter' as the childminder teaches them about fractions when they help to cut the fruit for snack time. The childminder places a strong focus on promoting children's communication and language skills. She read them a story, emphasising the initial sounds of words to help the children pronounce them correctly and increase their vocabulary. They excitedly sang songs and acted out the actions enthusiastically, displaying high levels of confidence and self-esteem.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder provides an exceptionally well-resourced learning environment, where children are highly independent. Children share exceptionally warm and responsive relationships with the childminder and one another. The childminder has extremely effective systems in place to enable the children to manage their own behaviour and feelings well for themselves. For example, she talks to them about how they are feeling and discusses ways in which they can resolve issues for themselves. Children's behaviour is exemplary. The childminder teaches the children about the importance of good hygiene, healthy eating and keeping themselves safe. This has a highly positive impact on children's health and well-being.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points and capabilities; particularly in their social development. They learn essential life skills, which prepares them very well for the next stage in their learning and school.
