Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder with the children. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled documentation including policies, qualification certificates and children's learning records. The inspector reviewed the childminder's self-evaluation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of child protection issues and follows robust policies and procedures to underpin her good practice. This helps her to keep children safe and protect them from harm. The childminder regularly checks on children's development and progress to identify and address any gaps. She successfully updates her knowledge by attending training and meeting with other professionals. For example, she attends weekly drop-in sessions with other childminders, where they discuss their practice and share ideas. The childminder keeps up to date with good practice guidance and attends a wide range of relevant training to build on her knowledge. This has a positive impact on the quality of her practice and the new experiences she provides for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children well and accurately monitors their learning and development. Assessments are frequent and show the good progress children make. This helps her to identify where children may need extra support, so children acquire the skills required for their next stage in learning. The childminder encourages children to solve problems in their play and be independent learners, for example, when completing puzzle games. This helps children to think for themselves. Children engage in many conversations with the childminder, developing good communication and discussion skills. Children learn some mathematical concepts well to identify different numbers and count the numerals on a clock face.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder supports children's independence exceptionally well so they learn to take care of their own personal needs. She skilfully encourages the youngest children to try to do things for themselves before offering assistance. This very effectively develops their enthusiasm and ability to persevere and have a go. The childminder very successfully encourages healthy eating and involves children in mealtimes to help them develop very positive attitudes towards healthy food. Children are extremely confident learners. They immerse themselves in games and activities, and play exceptionally well with the childminder. She gets to know children extremely well, very efficiently supporting their emotional well-being. Children settle with great ease, are very happy and clearly flourish in her care.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress. All children are working at typical levels of development for their age. They are happy, confident and keen to learn, which helps prepare them well for the next stage in their learning, including going to school.
